These are good points, but unfortunately I have to disagree with you on one point, because users are being misled: Sorry, but this is exactly the AF setting that makes AF unreliable and slow. All users of such a setting will complain about Fujifilm's oh-so-bad AF.
Let me explain, it's about three things that are essential for Fuji's AF:

Firstly, you should set the power to boost once and then forget about it and never touch it again. It's not a problem for battery life and makes the camera more agile in every respect. If in doubt, it's better to take one more battery than to save on camera performance.

Secondly, shutter priority is a guarantee for getting more incorrectly focussed images. AF-S should remain on focus priority and AF-C should definitely be switched to focus priority. And no, you don't lose much in the way of images, and if anything only the out-of-focus ones. You can try this on an X-H2s to actually get to 40fps, but even there it's nonsense.

And thirdly, there is the trap of AF+MF ON. Please only set it to on if you really need it. On the tripod, for example. And then switch it OFF again. Why? Because otherwise the camera switches to shutter priority, even if focus priority is set, and the user doesn't even notice and wonders about the oh-so-bad Fuji AF.

John -- THANK YOU for a fabulously helpful video. I received my X-T50 yesterday and you have helped me to navigate the scary menus. Most of my photography was with film cameras and a darkroom, with only a few controls and variables. Your video was the perfect length - I was able to pause with camera in hand and go through each menu you discuss. Not only is my camera now set ready for use, but I have a basic understanding of how to achieve various settings.

Very helpful guide, thank you. I got my XT-50 last week. It’s my first Fuji camera and I’m still struggling to get to grips with it. I took it out yesterday and was super frustrated by the way I’d set the camera up. There are too many buttons for me and I seemed to be frequently changing something inadvertently and didn’t know how to get back to the settings I wanted. I’ve now changed the camera to just shoot raw and switched off as many of the function dials as I can. I may relax this as I get used to the camera as it’s still work in progress.

The one thing that still frustrates me is having to cycle through the EVF/LCD modes. I like my LCD switched off most of the time. My non-Fuji cameras allow me to switch it on/off with the touch of a button, which is super useful when doing street photography or tripod work as I can use it when needed. I wish I could set a button up to go from EVF only to LCD only rather than needing 3clicks!

Hi, thanks for some super helpful tips. Would some/most of these setting apply to an X-T30?

Hello Mr Peltier
As someone who has recently switched to the Fuji ecosystem and a recent purchaser of the X-T50, I very much appreciated this introductory tutorial. It has been very helpful.
I was wondering about one setting. Is there a way to set a boost to the live view? I have tried in the Power Management => EVF/LCD Boost setting menu at all three settings and have seen no effect especially under the Low Light Priority. When the camera is set to underexposed conditions, I only get a very slight boost in the EVF. When the AF/ON button is pressed there is a good boost but it is only visible for a fraction of a second. I think the camera has this ability to maintain a boost in there somewhere but I have not found it.
I am interested in this particular setting as I like to do macro flash photography. With low ISO and small aperture settings, it makes it difficult to see what I am focusing on.
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.
