definitely don't mess with them. When I was a kid me and my friends had a game where we would climb through a culvert underneath our street. It was fun for a couple trips, then my friend decided to bring a flashlight, and when he turned it on, the entire thing was full of them. We all needed therapy after that.

I had a pet black widow for a while. Named her Athena, from the research I found they really aren't that deadly, there hasnt been an actual recorded case of someone dying to a black widow bite. Their also pretty docile and not nearly as aggressive as their much more dangerous counterpart brown recluse

There are black widows in Australia and in Quebec/New England, the two species are different sizes but both have red markings.
