Easy Home Brewing Mead (Honey Wine) - Part I

preview_player
Показать описание
Mead is a wine made from primarily honey. Adding fruit to the mead can add great flavours, rendering it what is called, "Melomel". This is my first attempt at making mead. Thanks to Hogedruk for providing the honey used in this batch. I was also inspired by immolateus to use oranges and raspberries. Mead takes quite a long time to make. I will be documenting all the steps along the way, and possibly by the fall, we might be able to finally give it a whirl.

Thanks Mate from Australia here and as always the videos are so informative. I do apologize but I was drinking and watched your bloopers and spat a mouthful of beer everywhere after you put your hand on the hot plate. Now that would be something I would do.

On most five gallon batches of wine i make I add 8oz of orange juice, wont affect the taste but it helps prevent the flatness you can get for not using acid blend. so orange juice is a nice alternative to acid blend just as simmered raisain in water is a nice yeast nutrient.

I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but when you make a mead always make sure to get honey without preservatives in it. The preservatives can sometimes kill the yeast and can also give your mead a strange taste. Just a heads up!

Great Mead video Craig!, I am brewing a sweet mead. it's been in. the secondary fro 4 months. I will be adding more honey to it to sweeten it up. I am thinking of using have of my batch to make a sparling mead them bottle the rest in wine bottles.

Take care and cheers....Paul from Minneapolis.

Wow I always just sliced each orange into 4 peaces and put it in the fermenter peels and all, you get a nice zesty flavor from the peels.

hi I liked your video thanks for posting it, if you don't have a juicer, you can take one of the whisks from an electric hand mixer and use that as a hand juicer

hey man, as a mead maker, dont use regular bread yeast. either use Lalvin D-47 but be sure to use a supplement. or alternatively you can use a normal champagne yeast such as Lalvin EC-1118. sorry i'm not craig :)

Would you warm the frozen berries up to room temp then add? I started a mead on Dec 29th and would like to add something to it soon. A 1 gallon batch meant for next Christmas...maybe we can do a mead swap??

@Lillianbini follow the directions. Typically 10g is what you'll need at that volume.
