My wife gave me this kit for Christmas when your kit was sold out. Pretty happy with it.

It's always interesting to see what goes into making this sort of mead. Used to make different type of mead with my dad in plastic buckets, and funneled it into old plastic bottles, shove them into a potato cellar. Always came out fantastic.

Cheapest way ive found to get a 1 gallon carboy is to go to the liquor store and buy a 1 gallon bottle of cheap wine for like $15 total. You can get drunk and then rinse out and sanitize the bottle and boom instant fermenter. Carboys where im at are $25+ for 1 gallon ☠️

I’m actually using this kit to make a Yuzu mead for my fermentation class. I bought it on amazon and it so reasonably priced for all that come with the kit.

TMDWU, this kit is great, I’ve used Tampico a couple times as the base it didn’t come out as good

My first wine was a gallon of apple juice in a huge mason jar that I loaded with sugar, a crushed up multi vitamin, and bakers yeast.
It still turned out to be the best tasting I’ve ever made 💀

as a laboratory biology scientist in charge of procurement:
no matter what, lab grade version of these items will exceed $50. so this kit is inherently valuable. glass carboys are expensive, especially for fermentation. creating homogeneous and thick glass that can withstand pressure requires a high level of quality control.
unlike trends, manufacturing requires reproducibility, therefore when something works well, especially if it's efficient, then you don't change it.
laboratory glassware (includes non glass containers) need to have a consistent quality regardless of when they're produced.
so, if this brand is reliable, this kit is valuable even if it's not used for alcohol.
ps. i used to make alcohol in undergrad. it was awesome to have permission to make beer in the dorm apartments when you're under 21.

I used this kit to make my first mead. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't require you to use a hydrometer. I'd recommend anyone getting this kit to also buy a hydrometer.

I recommend Brewmaster's Summer Harvest Kit over Craft a Brew's, its only 59 dollars, comes with a two gallon bucket plus a gallon carboy, a shit ton of chemicals, yeast, STARSAN (not included in craft a brew), and other things like a graduated cyclinder plus a hydrometer

My first kit was the mead kit from Homebrew, Ohio. It comes with everything you showed here but it also comes with a 2 gallon bucket as well.
Only a couple bucks more.
That bucket comes in handy when you want to make something like beer, but don't necessarily want to make huge batches.
