I was really proud of this video when it came out. Had never seen these principles organized and discussed in such a way before. But in hindsight, I realize perhaps it was somewhat lacking in practical applications and demonstrations, such as sparring footage. So here is a more recent video detailing how these principles apply in the grappling range, illustrated by lots of sparring and drilling footage:

I love how realistic and sensible the entire lesson is, I came to learn this because of a book I'm writing, each of the five principles just made directing my fight scenes easier. Each fight had a purpose but failed to express that purpose but now I can look at it from an individual perspective and honestly I'm impressed on how easier it became. Thanks a lot

Very good tutorial on self defense awareness, which most people these days have no clue to be balanced mentally and physically, so it's easy to be negative about the real way to survive in realistic situations. Great job, keep being the light for truth. GOD BLESS..

I think a conceptual understanding of fighting allows you to change the techniques you learn according to the situation and still be effective. I also thinks it helps by serving as a languague to explain to oneself or others why something works or doesn't, and how it can be improved. Therefore I find the conceptual understanding very important to be able to adapt and improve. Great video : )

Principles of Fighting
1. Control
- Achieved when opponent has less control (physical, mental) than you.
- Intimidate/taunt to provoke them.
- Take them to the ground. (Being on the ground sacrifices control on mobility.)
2. Access
- Achieved when facing upfront, since you have sight and range of your opponent.
- Get to the opponent's back. (Ever seen a person with eyes on the back of their heads?)
3. Stability
- Achieved when proper posture is observed: wide space and proper spine alignment.
- Strike the feet or the head.
4. Efficiency
- Achieved when least amount of resource is used to execute actions.
- Practice moves and stay fit before the fight. Make the least muscle contractions during the fight.
5. Tactic
- Refers to either offense or defense in a fight.
- Consider tactical retreats after a blow.
