A New Theory of Everything Just Dropped!

I got a bunch of requests to comment on a new attempt at a theory of everything that supposedly combines quantum physics with general relativity. I had a look, and this is a quick comment. First reaction, basically. Didn't get far in the paper, as you will see. I am sorry in case I appear unkind, but this kind of stuff really pisses me off.

As an academic for 25 years, I wholeheartedly agree that the lack of serious peer review is a substantial problem across many disciplines. There is so much incentive to publish something- anything- while there is almost no incentive to read it closely before publication. You’re doing amazing work on this channel, but you’re right that this is a big problem that academic publishing is failing to address.

I'm Thai, and just to add to this - the contributing Thai authors of the paper have gone on social media rampage and sued other academics who have criticized the paper. It's a sad academic affair, and in my opinion, very telling of the state of Thai academics nowadays.

The problem is not random people sending garbage as papers to science journals, but science journals accepting them even after review as if there is nothing wrong.

As one of the former editors of a scientific journal and a regular reviewer for many others (before retirement), I am very grateful for this public demonstration of the process of expert peer-review and exposure of pseudo-scientific B.S. Bravo!

I'm touched that you mention the typographical errors. I'm not a scientist, but a writer, and I've often deplored the modern carelessness with presentation simply because it detracts from the content and distracts the reader.

What scares me is how much attention this paper got from the media.
Here in Germany I saw a lot of articles about it without anyone questioning it. Mostly because the articles are written by folks who know even less about quantum physics and relativity than the authors of this paper...
