One passenger has died and dozens have been injured after a flight from London to Singapore was hit by turbulence.

Passengers onboard the Singapore Airlines plane told of a 'dramatic drop' that launched those not wearing a seatbelt straight into the cabin ceiling. Footage captured by a witness shows damaged overhead cabins and injured passengers being carried out on stretchers after the flight made an emergency landing in Bangkok

Thanks to the Thai emergency services for taking urgent, compassionate care of these strangers who just happened to be passing by their country!

The sky and the cloud was not really nice this afternoon (21 May 2024) in Southeast Asia. Fortunately, the emergency landing went well with the support from Thai Authorities.

It also shows that Thailand is well-prepared for such case. Thanks to the Thais.
We do not wish to see this kind of scene happen so often though.

Imagine the poor guy having a wee when they hit turbulence.

Given that the average number of commercial flights per day is 97, 439, it’s quite remarkable these types of incident are vanishingly rare.

Tracking a flight and seeing it landing somewhere else 🫠 the stress

Looking at the damage, when that turbulence hit, people (without their seatbelts on) must have gone flying!

This is why you are told to keep your seatbelt on when seated, even if the seatbelt sign is off.

Although I'm not saying the dead/injured were seated but not wearing belts. But this is a perfect example of why to not ignore that safety advice.

Turbulence is invisible. You don't know it's there until you fly into it.

Belt up when seated. It might just save your life.

I always keep my seatbelt on at all times. PERIOD. Taking a toilet excursion is a risk. As is the catering trolley unsecured in the aisle. And anyone else unsecured.

From flight tracking it dropped 6000 feet, that's crazy.

I usually just keep my belt buckled if I'm in my seat.

Did they have seatbelt signs on when the turbulence hit? It's important for people to follow those signs, they are on for a reason.

The next step is they call an attorney and now they're all millionaires. We are all bombarded with more attorney commercials.

even one second of dropping suddenly and I brick it, imagine the moment it stabilised again after ten seconds would be mad.

I never unbuckle my seat belt not unless am standing to use the bathroom...these events can be fatal as it's seen here. Quick recovery to the crew and passengers affected

Unusual.. plane have advance warning system besides collaborating with many agencies. Avoidance is one step ahead of such incidents regardless the severity .

If this is the case flight crews and bathroom users can never be safe. Aircraft needs to figure out new safety methods. Zero time drop is crazy
