Bishop Barron on the Call-and-Response of the Mass

Friends, it was an uplifting experience to speak at the National Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool, which concludes today. In this video, I reflect on a theme from one of my talks: the Mass as a call-and-response between Christ and his Mystical Body.

I was at the Congress yesterday. Bishop Barron managed to keep such a diverse and huge (7 thousand + ??) on the edge of their seats for the two, hour long presentations. We are so inspired and have greater clarity on parts of the Bible/ Eucharist/ Mass, even parts I have already studied in depth. I don't know if it is usual (I have never seen it before) but he got a standing ovation after each of his talks.. Well deserved.

Splendor of the mass. Churches great gift to the faithful. Sadly most children and young adults are not cathesized by their parents. Even sadder though is that clergy is not preaching that need to parents. How I wish priest were as eloquent as Fr. Barron. How I wish they would exhort parents to concentrate on their children before they leave home and become nones.

I really like and relate to calling the church the mystical body, rather than just ‘ the church’ or the people of god. I understand priests don’t want to task one’s brain by using the word ‘mystical’ as some teen might twitch at the sound of it. But saying the ‘mystical body’ is not for an older time.

The Anglican church has failed this country. The ancient cathedrals (built by Catholics) are now mostly tourist attractions, it's such a shame.

Joni … Bishop Baron expanded on this in the conference. "USELESS" was carefully expanded on and I think if you play back this video you will find he is not saying the Mass is useless in its everyday simplest form … quite the opposite. The Mass and the Eucharist is the highest most important (& biblical) form of praise to God and way in which we can have that vital personal relationship with God.

I was lucky enough to be at the congress this weekend and can't thank you enough for your wonderful talks! I was thinking of your talk on the Mass throughout the closing Mass on Sunday and it has completely changed my understanding of the Mass and deepened my understanding and appreciation of it.
