I as well as most Americans always knew how important Indonesia was without knowing it. Because if I'm not mistaken the spice islands are one of the things that caused the eastern hemispheres first discovery of the America's. One of the things Christopher Columbus was looking for was another way to the spice islands. The whole gold and silver thing came more after the Spanish discovering it's comparative abundance of it.

As additional information, Indonesia currently has a new capital called Nusantara, and the term nusantara comes from the history of the Majapahit kingdom too, the influence of Majapahit is still felt in Indonesia to this day.

Fun fact:The US flag 🇺🇲 was inspired by the majapahit flag, when the british arrived they used the red and white striped majapahit flag and added the union jack 🇬🇧 in the left corner of the flag, later USA changed their flag replacing the union jack with the starts and the rest is history and with it's turn the US flag inspired Malaysia's flag 🇲🇾 too eventually

You forgot to mention the part of story when after defeating Jayakatwang's kingdom, both Raden Wijaya & Yuan's forces celebrates their victory by drinking alchols. But secretly, Raden Wijaya planned to make Yuan's forces in diarray by ambush them while they still drunked. Even though Yuan's forces was strong, thay can't fight optimally when drunk. Thats the reason they must retreat back to China
