The lines repeated for most of the lyrics come from the Völuspá (“Profecy of the seeress”), stanza 28, first and most notorious poem from the Poetic Edda. When Odin, who loved to challenge others’ knowledge, tests the seeress’, she answers annoyed that she knows everything about him, including the fact that he took out his eye and offered it as a pledge to the wise giant Mímir to convince him to let him drink from the spring of knowledge he guards.
The lines “And they came before him, (…) There he will lie until Ragnarök” come instead from the Gylfaginning (“Gylfi’s deceit”), first part of the Prose Edda. The “they” it’s talking about are the serpent Jörmungandr, the giantess Hel and the wolf Fenrir. All three are Loki’s children and will play an important role in the fall of the gods during Ragnarök.

The names by which Odin is called are countless. Those listed in the song are only a part of them.

I know a transcription in runes of such a text doesn’t really have any reason to be, if not as a treat, but yeah…that’s just what it is, bear with me.

Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.

The lyrics are pronounced as modern Icelandic, instead of using Old Norse pronunciation: e.g. they sing “á” as the Icelandic diphthong /au/ instead of the Old Norse /a:/, or “ll” as /tl/.

Just imagine that you are in an army against vikings and the vikings keep saying all togather like this song. Omg it must be very scary. I fell in love with the language even if i dont understand it. Greetings from Turkey SKÅL <3

I really like this song for how ambiguous it is about it being with Odin or against him. Like on one hand you have this being sang as a praise to Odin saying all his names, his tail of his eye and how he banished jormungand to the sea but on the other hand you can make this sound as a threat that you know everything about his eye and his power, how his names dont have an efect on you and are not a secret to you and how he will pay for jormungand banishment when ragnarok starts.

Never listened to anything like this before and it randomly plays while listening to something completely different... And I'm not disappointed... Cool song.

For those who do not know: This language(on top) is called Old Norse, and is written with Runes. It’s pretty hard to learn as like no one speaks it anymore. No one knows what it Trubels sounds like too.

I love your music. This is one of my favourite songs in the worlds, besides Run. That is wonderful.

You are one of only a few uploaders translating these songs and I honestly believe your translations to be most accurate. Thank you for your work and effort. I love the music but, lack the language... For now.

This seriously sounds like a war chant. I can picture the drums being them beating their swords against their shields. It’s threatening as hel.

Quite an awesome song.
I wish the lyrics said more, since it's repetitive, but it's still cool and catchy.
