DON’T MAKE THIS DRONE MISTAKE | Why is the FAA after our Youtube channel??

Today we’re talking about how to legally fly a drone for Youtube videos and some FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) laws surrounding drone flying. After someone anonymously reported us to the FAA, we were told we could not fly our drone until we passed the Part 107 test to become a commercial drone pilot. It was a bit scary, a lot confusing, but in the end we’re more confident drone pilots thanks to some amazing study materials from The Pilot Institute. Since Chris passed the Part 107, everything was going great until we received a SECOND call from the FAA again a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, because Chris had his Part 107 license on hand, all was good and we didn’t receive any sort of fine. Today we’re answering more of your most frequently asked questions regarding what you should know before flying a drone or buying a drone. If you have a question we didn’t answer, be sure to ask us in the comments. :)

8:26 - Important clarification regarding registration of <250g drone for non-recreational purposes: you don't only have to have a Part 107, you also have to register that drone under the Part 107 process regardless of weight.

I am sorry that you guys are having to deal with this. I am grateful that you have given us so much information because we have talked about getting a drone and want to make sure we do it correctly. Thank you so much for this video!

While I don’t have a drone or plan on ever getting one, I still enjoyed this video. I really appreciate your integrity. The world needs more people like you.

Anonymous tattle tales should not be allowed. If someone wants to go through the process of reporting, they need to be able to stand up and be identified. I would never report anything anywhere to anyone, without standing on my integrity, and not hiding behind my screen.

The graphics and storytelling the first few minutes are some of your best! I made sure to get my part 107 before we got monetized but I'm sure we could have been reported before that if someone was salty enough

Wait until remote ID becomes required. Under the current FAA rule your Drone will have to transmit its registration number, location etc as well as YOUR location. This info will be available in real time to the public with a simple app. That means any nutcase with a cell phone can track down your immediate location and confront you or steal your equipment.

You might also add that regardless of being a recreational, or professional Part 107 drone flyer you need the TRUST Completion Certificate (The Recreational USA Safety Test) which is free, and also available via the Pilot Institute.

WOW! You 2 are possibly the nicest and most genuine people here on YouTube. I can only presume this person is jealous and just wants to try and upset your perfectly stacked apple cart. Feel so very sad for people like this. If only they'd actually watched the video where you studied for your licence - they would have never wasted their time 🙄Thanks for another great video though - we all love you both 🥰

Great video! Wanted to add one note: While it is true that you don't have to register <250 gram drones if you use them for recreation, they are not exempt from registration when used for part 107 purposes. And of course as you already pointed out, all drones are subject to all FAA regulations no matter what they weigh.

Great video! The Part 107 is necessary for all creators that want to fly a drone. I found a YouTube video from Tony Northrup and watched it several times, took notes, studied, and passed my first time taking the test. Stay safe in the skies everyone!

I'm glad in the UK YouTube is not considered commercial use for drones 😄

I saw your video last year too. You are so welcome, glad you enjoy Hawaii :). This is good info and why everyone flying a drone should get the part 107 license.

Great video! You all and Kara&Nate were the ones that made us realize we needed to get the Part 107. Took the pilot institute with Greg also and had no trouble passing. Such a great course. Thanks for sharing!😁

Thanks for the info! I just unlisted the video I took with my drone. I am now going to work on getting my 107 before i post any more footage to youtube. I am a similar channel size to you so I probably need to get my 107 before i post on YT with the drone.

There are a lot of people that hate drones. They Watch videos to just report anything they can.. there's a lot of guys that have talked about reports they got. Even though talking to faa. Faa agreed they did nothing wrong.
No faa report that I know of. But I had a guy rip me apart for flying near a hawk. While I try to explain. Hawk fly to me. And I was flying away. U see me see the hawk and turn around and pick up speed

We were watching back in 2020 on your first report. I had shared your first video then and some responses were “we are under weight”. This video gives a very clear of do’s and don’ts! And weight doesn’t matter if you have YouTube channel. Our drone….is only 2 years old and is still in the original box! Great video guys thank you!! ~Cara 😊
