WoW UI Addons YOU NEED for Shadowlands - What is NOT optional these days?

WoW UI Addons are just as important to get right in preparation for Shadowlands as it is to pick a class and spec to play in the next expansion. In this video I'll share the list of my most essential addons for World of Warcraft that I believe everyone needs to use, unless a person tries to complicate their in-game life deliberately for some unknown reason...

This video is planned to be Part 1 of the 2 videos about WoW UI Setup for a casual player who is leaning towards minimalism, rather than overloading their HUD with all sorts of flashy things - that's not me, and I only recommend to you what I use myself.

Please like the video if you found it helpful, and subscribe to the channel not to miss the release of Part 2!

I use alot of addons, but like my UI a specific way for all the alt army. I turn on the ones I need for specific activities so the screen is uncluttered.

Bartenders, Shadow Unit Frames, SexyMap, and WeakAura's (not to plug another Content Creator but Luxthos are great and have a consistent look/set up for all classes), are the basic UI changes.

Other QoL ones - Bagnon, Details, DBM, DeJaCharacterStats, GTFO, HandyNotes, OPie, Leatrix_Plus, BlizzMove (LOVE this one - resize and move the Blizzard ui frames), WorldQuestList, WorldQuestTracker.

PvP - Capping.

Pet Battles - Recount, Annene, and Derangement PetBattleCooldowns.

Thank you Gyro for taking the time to show us your addons. I like your minimalistic aprouch and I'm for sure incorporating these in my game.

Thx for posting. I personally used to play private servers because I got tired of BFA, and so the only ones that would work properly were Dominos and Recount. I was more than satisfied with that. Also DBM but it was outdated, but I had no issues raiding since I know all the bosses by heart. Dominos is bliss.

I take a minimalist approach when it comes to the WoW UI. I currently have a relatively short yet growing list of Addons I use for QOL reasons like you have mentioned;

1. Gatherer Addon for tracking resource nodes.
2. Coords Addon to display coordinates on the Map including my location.
3. Weakauras Addon to display spell cooldowns. I am slowing becoming more proficient with it.

I definitely plan to add DBM and a damage meter Addon ( Recount?) Beyond that, I don't feel compelled to include any more Addons for my WoW UI.

I love Dominos and have used it for years - maybe since they came out. What works beautifully for me is the ability to make blocks of icons/spells that work like bars. I use a left hand pad (Razer Tartarus) and can configure blocks of buttons that look on the screen just like my button layout. Everything then in entirely intuitive.

Dominos has never broken on me, never bugged out, never been confusing or difficult to configure and reconfigure. Solid, solid addon.

I never liked ElvUI until recently when i tried it again. On first login you get a promt, push the "continue" button a few times and its all automatically set up within seconds, i just have 1 custom profile that i use for all characters and make small tweaks to fit class needs. I was looking for a reliable player/target unit frame addon for a long time, but they are all outdated or bugged beyond repair, so i tried ElvUI for that reason and now im in love. Its very easy to setup a minimalistic ui, especially with TellMeWhen (or Weak Auras if you know how to use it, i just use both) to show buffs/debuffs on yourself and your target - even with discrete background "Pling" sounds on specific buffs if needed in intense situations. Thats one of my goals before SL, to get my UI in position so i dont have to worry about it, since i've never had a UI for very long because addons keep breaking or going out of date - now i have everything within just a few tried and true addons. I use Blizzard party/raid frames though since they are simple and just better for most situations than any other addon ive tried. ElvUI, TellMeWhen/WA, DBM, Details and some other minor/personal addons for chests, rares, pvp etc.. Action Bar Profiles can definitely come in handy when playing multiple specs on the same character.

ive tried everything i think and in the end the less the better, all you really need is bartender, something for your bag, dps meter, weakaura, DBM, raider.io and something for nameplates, i like threatplates, and thats it, the game is nice, clean, you have visibility on everything you need and still a lot of space on screen to enjoy the game.

If you PvP then Gladius and big debuffs is a MUST

Using Bartender4 and Shadow Unit Frames along with some other addons since Legion's pre-patch, improved my enjoyment of the game by a lot.

My go-to addons are Bartender4, TradeSkillMaster, DeadlyBossMods, Details and TomTom.

I felt same way with Elvui. Its great, but, man, I would have to spend hours configuring it. Bartender is my goto for action bars. DBM is pretty much needed these days. For quality of life, I like things like SellJunk, Baganon, and Altaholic. Great vid, Gyro!

Elvui and wa are the best addon for the Ui. I think most of the people dont want to waste their time to understand them completly. But its really worth guys.

I like details damage meter, bigwigs instead of dbm, i love shadowed unit frames, and Raven for custom buff highlights especially for off tank stacks etc.

I tried to experiment with Elvui but thats a bit too much for me. Bartender is fine but somehow the icons are a bit uglier with them. I will give Dominos a shot, thanks for the mention. For healing Healbot was cool for leveling but with too much ablities it was a pain for me to manage healing. Then i started to use Vuhdo (Grid is too ugly for me) with Clique, i deleted it when i couldnt click to several things becouse it wanted to heal or buff, etc. (for example right click to my profile if i bind something to that) For me learning to use all spells as mouseovers with basic Blizzard frame was the go-to, becouse you can resize and reposition those frames. Showing class colors, not showing the border, showing only dispellable debuffs, its so simple and clear to see.

Hey, Loved this video. I'm coming back to WOW after not playing since Pandas so, this was very useful. I'm looking thru your videos, did you ever do the non-essential addons for WOW video? I can't find it.

Elvui all the way for me, the setup was intimidating at first but IJ love having all the control over everything and going back to less options feels like a big let down. I tried Dominos and Bartender back in the day, they were okay and almost equal to each other. Elvui's bar system works almost the exact same way... just with the whole UI included.

In my lil group of friends, Recount was replaced by Skada which is lighter and more stable but does all the things recount does... And then Details! came into the picture and anyone interested in accuracy switched to it since it uses the same method as Warcraftlogs.

I used to use Grid and Clique but then someone pointed me to Vuhdo which at the time was in beta. I think this was back in Cata. I had tried healbot and some other healer addons and was using Grid and Clique because It was the only way I could have things exactly how I wanted. Vuhdo just blew that out of the water with its options and configurability. Also, it was a pain in the ass trying to keep all my little Grid extras updated!
