One of the best things I ever did for myself was make all my key bindings the same across all the characters. It just makes playing alts better. I don't have to think about where my interrupt is, I just hit it.

I didn't need this video, but I still watched the whole thing and liked it because there are a lot of people who do need this video and I want them to be able to find it.

I need to recommend shift-spacebar and ctrl-spacebar for your defensives, it's a nice huge bind that you can't miss and is a great panic button.

I use to be a keyboard turner but your video covering keybinds from Shadowlands was instrumental in changing my evil ways. I continue to use your recommendations to this day. Thanks for the update, I was really looking forward to getting it with all the changes I haven't got the hang of OPIe but I will try again!

Dude people don't realize how good Intro to WoW video's are for people. Nobody wants to sit there and read a guide ( well some do). But its more user friendly in video format.

Long time player. Tried this for the past month and it's a game changer. I can now tell you where every skill is in all my specs off the top of my head. Can't believe I used to use 5-= keysbinds. Thank you!

Years ago a bellular video on keybindings changed how I play this game and made it more enjoyable.
Now you're giving me new ideas that I'm definitely going to test

Rebinding SHIFT, CTRL, and/or ALT to your mouse side buttons makes for the easiest use of macro cast modifiers and the greatest amount of actions. Autohotkey in Windows or various vendor software packages will get the job done. Then assign Z, X, C, Q, E, R and middle mouse to an action bar button, create macros for those along with 1-5 buttons, and you have 24/36 abilities taking up 12 bar spots.
Get a good weak aura to track cool downs and it doesn't matter that you can't see the ALT, CTRL or SHIFT layer CDs.

Awesome guide, note that if you have really large hands like me using your thumb is impossible and consider using the ALT modifier for extra binds and get rid of CTRL altogether. another lifesaver is macros with [help, harm] so you can have healing and dmg spells on the same bind (shamans/priests) and keep the same binds across all specs.

Some binds are reserved:
- scroll up = dispel/purge
- m3 (scroll click) = small personal
- m4 (back button) = kick
- m5 (forward button) = focus kick
- shift + spacebar = movement

Wow, I didn't REALLY need this video either - but what an amazing video and reference for newer friends. It's so well done! The time put into the doc is just great. I don't even play retail but still check out your video's like this from time to time - obviously it can be adapted to Cata/SoD etc.

Just wanted to say thank you for the effort you and your team put into making this keybind spreadsheet, it has improved my gameplay dramatically.

Changing from wasd for movement to esdf for movement helped me out quite a bit. Made more keys reachable and feels more natural for me. Also nice that on a standard keyboard, the”f” key has a nub to help you find it without looking.

I have been playing WOW for over a decade now and still learnt so much from this video! Thanks for the great upload Bellular! Tips like the interact key will save me HEAPS of time

One of the best changes I made to keybinding was when I realized that I should get away from using WASD and instead using ESDF. That combination is the natural typing position, so for any touch typers, your memory for keybinds is more automatic. It also gives you a greater number of keys to use without having to stretch for number keys. Also, putting shift and control functions on the mouse was hugely helpful (I have two side buttons that I use for these functions, and it makes keybinding so much more useful). Thanks for your videos. Very helpful.

I had done something similar back in Legion... but nowhere near as cleanly as this. Motivated me to redo how my bars were setup today and fix a few keybinds. MUCH cleaner now. It'll take a bit to get the muscle memory back, but I definitely like it. AND love the keybinding spreadsheet for a reference as well !

That spreadsheet looks really well done! I especially appreciate the addition of suggestions for putting specific abilities on certain binds since I think that will help figure out where to put some minor binds that aren't currently actively used in rotations (especially for altoholics like myself). Thank you for this great resource!

This was 100x more helpful than I thought it would be. Thanks for putting in the time to make the guide!

When I went through this process for myself during Legion (pretty sure it was Legion anyway), it DRAMATICALLY enhanced my skill threshold for the game - once I had developed the muscle memory for my keybinds. If you've ever found yourself wondering how other players manage the things they do; a difference in keybinds will very likely be the primary factor in why you feel you fall behind.

Some great tips! Hotley and UI/action bars go hand in hand. Having your skills on screen in a similar layout as they are on your keyboard+mouse can be really helpful for learning those keybinds
