Visiting the World's Fattest Country That Went Bankrupt 🇳🇷

Nauru is a country a little over 2,000 miles away from Australia, yet there lies a prison camp housing refugees trapped, unable to leave. Not to mention the remote location of the island and interesting history transforming this place into the most obese, cigarette addicted country on the planet…

This is the first time I've ever heard of this country called "Nauru" - Thanks for the exposure!

Fijians have the most welcoming and kindest culture I have ever experienced. Every family in Fiji will welcome you into their home for tea

Harry, with respect, the humanitarian crisis was that many refugees were DYING at sea trying to reach Australia in boats. Once they established this strong deterrent, no more refugees died trying to get to Australia or at least very few. Sadly, the supply of people who want to migrate exceeds the capacity of developed countries to accommodate them.

I miss Nauru, I grew up there from 74 to 89 when family moved.. The booms are the cantilevers. One of the best places to live in it's heyday.

These people on Naru are boat people that tried to get to Australia from Indonesia from memory they were offered large amounts of money to return home but the people refused

Those who were found to be genuine refugees were given visas. Those who were not genuine refugees were offered to return home but refused. The majority are SriLankan and there are no wars there. The Naru detention centre was emptied out a few years ago but people continued to arrive in Australia illegally knowing they will be sent away. They passed through other safe countries to get to Australia. They are economic refugees and you can't blame Australia for making people apply for legal entry. Tax payers also pay for these people in motels. They are not forced to stay there.

The UK should take a chapter out of the aussies book. Why our country is a mess and 11mil a day spent on posh hotels.

Refugees from Bangladesh? Economic migrants perhaps, but calling them refugees is a stretch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the English people use Australia as a prison???
I think it was the biggest prison in human history..

Harry is one of those I'd love to travel with. As a 55 year old bloke I am still in awe of different places and cultures. I've travelled with the military and police, but that different, in many respects.

Thanks for the videos Harry, much appreciated 👍

Hang on a minute....
The refugee said he didn't like Naru, but he can't go back to Bangladesh because he will be killed.
If you ask me if you would want to stay alive and staying alive in Naru is the grace of God for this refugee.

Why do you think Australia is doing a bad thing? Australia is a beacon for migrants wanting a very good deal. If Australia don't send boat people offshore, they would get swamped by illegal arrivals. You need to find out why countries do what they do, before you judge them

So sad, this episode. I feel bad for the people of Nauru. I hope things will improve in the future.

I'm from Hawaii. I remembered in the early 2000s a luxury apartment complex in downtown Honolulu, which was called Naaru Towers. I believe it wasn't profitable or something. I think the problem was Naaru didn't manage their sovereign wealth fund correctly.
