I practiced Wing Chun some thirty/forty years ago, but it seemed that no one mentioned the simple but important facts as illustrated by you. Thank you very much for your free sharing.

People talk shit about WC but I'll tell you this, as a relatively experienced striker I've learned more about entrances by watching WC & FMA videos and applying or adapting them to my personal game than any other martial art that I have actually practiced to some degree. I spar with guys who've only trained kickboxing for the most part and between the entrance strategies I've picked up from WC & FMA most of them have a hard time seeing me coming. I use traps & locks very sparingly but when the opportunity is there it's a done deal the majority of the time. Diversify your skillset, you don't need to become an expert in every martial art but if you just get the basics of each then you take what's useful for you & apply it. As they say in Ninjutsu "If it works use it".

That's pretty cool, easy enough for a beginner to understand and start with.

You make some excellent points: the importance of the center line, the importance of proper footwork, not losing the connection to the wooden dummy, the importance of not using excessive force, and the importance of proper footwork in order to execute a strike.

Thanks Kevin, it’s been a while for me, but nice to get back on the wooden man again… good, competent and highly instructional… well worth a Sub!

Thanks Kevin. I am always pushing foot work for everything. So important. I'll have to add position in. It is so basic you might look over it just assuming people know. Great points.

Obviously this martial art is strong and effective. But it is the first time that someone explains the functions of that wooden "Totem" that seems so primitive and mysterious to us Westerners. Thanks for the didactic and simple explanation for such a complex art! Congratulations!🌟
