I used to work at apple support. The only software we could suggest for anti virus software was Malwarebytes. ALOT of issues were removed with a scan, even internet connectivity, mail and browser dodgy extensions.. My best action plan was shutting down the Mac, going into safe mode, downloading Malwarebytes and running a scan. It removes the issues and upon restarting.

Would actually enjoy a video on security.

Unfortunately if you use both Windows and Mac computers and want some consistency in the browser user experience, Safari isn't an option. Understand all the risks.

As some else who is “passionate” about online privacy, I’d enjoy a deep dive type video on how you protect yours. Thank you

It should be mentioned that Chrome really likes writing to the drive which if you have an SSD *will* shorten the drive's lifespan. Heck, when the whole writing to SSD thing that came out after the M1 people found out of all browsers Chrome was the _worst_ in the amount of information it needlessly wrote to the drive — even on Windows.

I have one antivirus app installed. A person from Apple tech support said "you don't really need it but if you want to, there's one we like". He was referring to Malwarebytes, and since then I've heard other favourable views on it.

Besides privacy issue, chrome drains more battery than Safari does.

A video on privacy issues would be very helpful. Apple is a bit better with this but I'd still want to know more about how to stay best protected even if on an apple device

The biggest reason to go Edge over Chrome is because Edge has a resource saving feature called “Sleeping Tabs” that after a few mins of inactivity in a tab, it minimizes its resource usage allowing those to be reallocated for other things.

I love Apple and have all their products, ALL. I’m also a developer actually.
But no, Safari is poor yet! They need to improve it a lot to be compared to the stability of Chrome haha

I use CleanMyMac almost entirely for its uninstaller feature. While moving an app to the trash may seem the more simple option, you are only removing the .app file. Any other data the app has created will remain if the app didn't come with an uninstaller. Hunting down these various library files can be a pain and while they may not be doing any actual harm, I'd sooner remove an app completely. Not to mention these could add up over a long time if you install/remove many apps.

Agree that cleaner apps are avoidable because we can do the same thing, searching and deleting unnecessary files manually. But format is not an option for a lot of people who use software like plugins for music and video creation for example, as it would take like a day or two to license all of them again.

I didn't know that Brave browser could collect more data than it should, I've always thought it was a good alternative to the most famous browser.
I've uninstalled Chrome from my pc, Macbook and Android smartphone since 1 year, never installed on my iPhone

I’ve been a Mac user for over a decade now, and I own 4 Macs, both Intel and Apple Silicon.

I think a lot of Mac users that come over from Windows think they need all these programs, and they’re really counterproductive in many cases on a Mac because they’re either poorly designed, or simply not needed.

1. Chrome is only a backup browser on my Mac for when safari can’t properly render a webpage.
Safari is my main browser, and my favorite on my Mac and iPhone.

2. Don’t really use browser extensions because of the performance hit.

3. I disagree with NOT having antivirus on your Mac.
I have Malwarebytes Premium which is is pretty resource friendly.

4. I definitely agree with cleaner apps to an extent.
I KNEW MacKeeper would be on here. 😂

5. macOS has some great image converting tools built in.

6. Private Relay is all I use as far as VPNs go.
You tend to take a hit on battery and browsing speed.

macOS is a fairly robust and competent OS all by itself, you don’t need to add a ton to it to make it more capable than it already is.

Google Chrome has also been known to install an updater that hogs an insane amount of system resources, slowing down your Mac significantly.

I used 99% Safari on Mac and on my iPhone giving an incredible experience sometimes 1% use firefox on mac. I also used New Apple Private Relay yes that is not a VPN but Apple is improving it continuously these days sometimes does not work while opening youtube. Please use Apple native free apps at least try for a month oh so most people like it definitely and never go back.

I've never used Chrome. I already knew it uses a lot of ram but now I also know that the privacy is really bad. I always uses Firefox for normal browsing and Firefox Developer Edition for web development

Wow, that’s the first time I know some one just like me using only safari and firefox. In term of safari, if you get use to it, it feels much snappier and easy to work with than chrome (especially the tab group feature, which I used often). While for firefox, I use it for the privacy purpose. For both of those browser you could change the default search engine, I often use duck duck go as my primary search engine due to it’s privacy feature.

Oh man, I love Brave browser but you got me thinking now... I'm definitely looking forward to a video focused on Browsers + privacy!

I would say use the browser that suits you more. The privacy is more or less going to be the same.
If you wanna have your stuff fully private and safe, use another device not ever connected to internet.
