1) Firstly I'll discuss What is Multitasking,
2) Multitasking and Brian - Multitasking is not good for the Brain
3) Multitasking Test to help you see why multitasking is not possible
4) You'll also learn Why Multitasking is bad for you & why it's not effective
5) and lastly the secret to effective multitasking
Multitasking refers to the ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once by focusing on one task while keeping track of others. Multitasking in the workplace most often involves switching back and forth between tasks and effectively performing different tasks rapidly one right after the other.
Research in neuroscience tells us that the brain doesn’t really do tasks simultaneously, as we thought (hoped) it might.
Multitasking is managed by executive functions in the brain, That control and manage cognitive processes and determine how, when, and in what order certain tasks are performed.
There are two stages to the executive control process:
1. Goal shifting: Deciding to do one thing instead of another
2. Rule activation: Changing from the rules for the previous task to the rules for the new task
In simple words, Multitasking splits the brain and all it is doing is trying to frantically switch between the activities eating, to writing emails and answering chat conversations.
It’s obviously less efficient, we are prone to make more mistakes, and over time, it can sap our energy. but we’ll discuss the effects of Multi tasking later in the video.
