When Your Car Says 0 Miles You Can Still Drive This Far

I've always wondered how far I could go once my vehicle said I had 0 miles remaining. With a 12 gallon tank and never filling more than 10 gallons, I knew there were deep reserves inside that tank. I never recommend running a tank dry, but its good to know how far you can go in case of an emergency.

Hi this is not a good idea to do, because the electronic fuel pump could be damage when you run out of fuel completely

That's crazy. You had two gallons left I think because the gas tank I believe is only 13.2 gallons.

There is this web page that shows how far you can drive after the gas light comes on.

Mazda3 had at least 69 miles.

Hyundai Elantra had only 30.

And when my former car Elantra didn't even show range below 30 miles it got scary one day when I was on a highway where I couldn't find any gas stations.

That thing must have been running on fumes. Didn't run out.

I have never run out of gas. Probably better to hit up a gas station within 20 minutes of the fuel light illuminating.

And if you are in Northern Ontario God forbid if your light comes on and you are 100 miles or more from a fill up.

I bought the 2016 sedan and had a stressful trip to Vegas, thinking I would run out of gas. So its's a 13 gallon tank?
Great video, thanks!

Hey I noticed you put your gas cap on your paint, Idk if you know that you can rest it on the gas door instead

I filled up my Mazda 3 Sport - 10.x gallons.. I look down and it says my range is 444. I guess that's pretty good, right?

Damn! I’m glad to know lmao. I have 1 mile left on my skyactiv Mazda CX-9… I know it’s going to hit 0 when I cold start on the morning! I guess I can technically drive from here (NYC) to Connecticut on 0 (about 22 highway miles)

I believe the car hold a reserve of 2.8 gallons so when the light comes on you still have a couple of miles left. The miles you have left once the gas light comes on, depend on how many mpg you usually get. Well anyway I say we just don't let the tank go dry since if you keep doing that the pump will go out and the it will cost you around a thousand dollars to fix. So I don't get why people just don't add gas so they don't run out.

it was test of "in case of emgcy" but I never like to drive on close to empty reservoir tank because the system is sucking all the dirt at the bottom of the tank.

I know from personal experience that I can go at least 25 miles on an mk6 Jetta, mostly highway

Yeah something always felt fishy in my 2014 Mazda 3. I fill up usually with 30KM range left, and it never fails to only fill up 35 Liters, yet the tank is suppose to be 50Liters, kind of a wtf moment. This explains a lot. Huge resivor in Mazda 3's it seems. Could have probably went almost 80 Miles on an "empty" tank.
