A lot has changed since 1991, but Jim O’Shea’s car hasn’t. The St. Louis County man recently drove his Volvo 740 GLE past the million-mile mark.

This man literally took 30 years to prove a point and succeeded

”It's his... for two years"

Probably the most American "gift" ever.

Dear VOLVO ... Is this a joke ?!?!?!?!? Give this man a new car - not only for 2 years ... Give it to him for life. He deserves that.

Title is misleading. they didn't give him new car. They let him borrow it for 2 years

I hope he keeps his old car. He's gonna need it when the new one breaks down.

Hearing “…..free for two years..” wiped the joyful smile off my face.

Nice. A Taxi driver in Vancouver, Canada drove his Toyota Prius over 1-million Kms. Toyota Canada gave him a new Prius and the one with the mileage went to a museum I think.

Are you kidding me? 2 years? Should have just gifted him the car. He is such a good advertisement for the company.

Imagine paying car insurance for 30 years and never needing it.

I can bet, the new car wouldn’t be as good as the old one. The emotional attachment of driving your loved one with the many memories and conversations for the past 30 years is priceless.

I remember an article in a car magazine in the 1980s. A woman in the UK commuting from Birmingham to Newbury every day in a VW Golf GTI, did well over 300, 000 miles on the original engine and gearbox. Not as many miles as this Volvo but an achievement in the UK. Its a small country and not many people would do a 200 mile round trip to work in a car. Also, in those days a lot of cars went to the scrapyard once they hit 100, 000 miles.

"Never been in any accidents. Been *hit 3 times by my wife* in the driveway". This man is signaling for help. We must protect him at all costs.

The dealer shouldn’t have had to lend him a car for two years. The manufacturer should have just given him one to keep and use the story as marketing content.

That is a true victory right there! I am proud of that man for being wise and not worrying about having the latest fanciest ride just to impress people! He got his money’s worth and definitely saved plenty of money over the years by not having a car payment.

Year 2052: Jim O’Shea’s car just hit AGAIN 1 million miles, 27 Engines, 148 Transmissions and 200, 846 Recalls later

This is why cars will never be the same again. There was a time where manufacturers aimed towards the highest and most noble goals such as making the best most reliable cars. But unfortunately that is no longer possible because of how bad it is for business.

They should be able to exactly this kind of car again but they never will because it's not profitable.

There in lies one of the problems of our modern world and why we live in a throw away society.
