This is why film photography and vintage lenses are becoming more important. iPhones can make high res/ clean images. I don’t think they’ll ever replicate the true character of vintage lenses or various film formats.

Funfact the a7sIII has a 48mp sensor with some kind of pixelbinning. I would have loved a lowlight comparison

Yeah, definitely do a comparison between the area Alexa and the iPhone 14 Pro Max that be amazing

In good lighting conditions there really isn't much between them in terms of image quality, I think. It would have been nice if you had made some shots in less ideal lighting, as more of a difference would likely have been seen then.

The A7S III Is a video camera rather than a photo camera though, it only has 12MP because that's the optimal amount according to Sony for 4K video.

It's photography based sister camera the A7R III has a more comparable 42.4MP and would have made for a better comparison.

Even the A7 III would have made more sense at 24.2 mp

DoF, low light, interchangeable lenses... There are many things which actually make a camera better than a cellphone.

Mind you, the A7SIII is a video focused camera. If you really want to put the iPhone 14 through its paces, put it up against the A7RIII. 48MP iPhone against a 42MP Mirrorless camera. That'll be interesting.

My brother works on the set of Marvel movies (15 so far) in the Camera and electrical department as a DIT manager, He owns several RED cameras and even the Sony Aria used in this video. He was using an iPhone 7 but the 14 pro max is now his new toy that pushed him over the edge to upgrade.

Would be cool to see a video comparison as well!

I think you can make this test better in many ways, the a7S iii is a video main camera, no one uses that thing for photos, compare the iPhone to something like the r5 or 7R IV and you will see that it would get obliterated. Plus you didn't even cover photos in the low light situations, a place where the iPhone would fall apart. Overall I think that the iPhone relies on software to perfect what hardware limitations can't achieve, its impossible to compare the iPhone to a real photo camera, in the end it all comes down to the sensor of the camera and the small iPhone sensor will make every photo look artificial and very unnatural.

Always fun to see how far phone cameras have become, and how in this video, most of the photos honestly looked pretty much the same between the two cameras.

I think what would make this video more exciting and educational would be to show more scenarios where the cameras differ. It's of course exciting to see that the cameras can perform equally well for 24mm, outdoor still-life photos, but what about shots where you want to zoom in? What about shots in low light? What about shots with traffic lights or highly saturated colors? How do they handle skintones and portraits? What about long exposures? Which has better shadow recovery or dynamic range? There's a lot of space to do a deep dive here and I hope you hit some of these sorts of things in the iphone vs Alexa video.

Why are you comparing the iPhone to a camera made for video and not make any video comparisons? Oh that's right, clickbait.

This is a good video but you only scratch the surface I would have liked for you to go and compare raw files and low light with and standard kit lens.

i have an idea...if u are well doing in photography foxtail...mmm...i really want to try some things...i dont own the iphone 14 pro..but really want to try it...first is to use apple pro raw with the 48 mp + the focos app for the depth map blur...for portraits and etc...and after...just cant imagine going with the 58 mm lens from moment and a case...and combine it with the pro apple raw

A7siii has more video features which pushes up the price. If you want to compare photos you could try the a7rii which boasts a 42mp sensor and comes in under $1000 used. Subject separation, and low light comparison would also be important to show.

You could also go cheaper by comparing a sony a6x00 or fuji x-t20/30.

Phone photos are definitely getting much better and are good for a lot of cases. However, between the inflated price and testing mostly the strengths of a phone camera, I can't help but feel this comparison is uneducated or disingenuous.
