About Reveil:

REVEIL is a narrative first-person psycho-thriller game that focuses on story, puzzles and exploration. Find out what’s going on inside Walter Thompson and what his dark past at the Nelson Bros Circus has to do with it.

You wake up. You're disoriented. Your head hurts. Things seem surreal, yet familiar.

Your wife Martha and your daughter Dorie are not there. Why?

Looking for answers, you explore your environment and fragments of memories. On your journey you are repeatedly confronted with riddling tasks, driven by the desire to find out what's going on.

What happened last night? Why can't you think of any other thing aside from your days as a stage builder at the circus?

As things get crazier and more bizarre, the lines between reality, memory, and imagination become more and more blurred and you realize: there is no going back. You have to do whatever it takes to bring this story to an end, no matter at what cost...

Theory regarding the ending (Spoilers of course)

One thing that didn't sit right with me was the ending. Why would Liam kill everyone, make it to the memory wipe machine, only to turn around and walk all the way back to his testing chamber?
I don't think Liam killed anyone. The gun at the end was covered with blood, most likely meaning the person to use it was injured, but Liam's only injury was the headaches returning. He was fine otherwise.
If you take note in the room with the scenarios that they'd planned out (2:30:40), you'll notice one table with "waiting in secret". This scenario seems to involve a war veteran that is struggling with PTSD. The whiteboard even mentions in very large letters "STRESS", "HEIGHTEN ADRENALINE" and "TRAUMA. PSYCHOSIS".
I believe the test subject that was exposed to this memory had escaped, stole a guards firearm (the whiteboard mentions "stealth" too), and using the military training that had been implanted in his memory, escaped from the facility before you. I believe by the time he reached the machine he was too injured from a gunshot wound (hence the blood on the gun and out in the exit) to use the machine, and didn't want his body to be left in a facility it would never be found.
I believe he escaped, used the medical equipment on the way out of the facility and died shortly after (the whiteboard also mentions that this scenario was given to 'Subject 034'. Looking at the room that shows each test subjects vitals (2:26:24), you can see that Subject 34 is deceased)

he only thing that goes against this theory is Liam hearing them being shot. My only thought is this is just him filling in the blanks.

I like how you literally walked past over a hundred Martha and Dorie posters then finally noticed it in the fun Haus lol

A little fun fact to detail the sector's names Urd, Skuld and Verd is a reference to old norse mythology of the norn or the three sisters of fate. The first one is Urd which represents the past, The next one is Verdandi which represents the present, and the last one is Skuld which represents the future.

This is the perfect example of why I and so many others started watching your videos. The editing, the commentary, everything is just so well done. I had to break the video into 2 parts unfortunately, but I can't think of another time I woke up and immediately got on to finish the rest of anything. Bravo to the developers for such a beautiful and captivating experience, and cheers to you brother for taking us along for the ride!

The way I litrally spoke the words “I hope IGP posts a long video today” earlier. (Also never commented before however I’ve been watching you for the past 3/4 years and I want to let you know that you (and at times drae skilly and icy) have kept me company during one of the darkest cycles in my life. You have been/are a great friend, mind, personality, entertainer, and Soul and the content/work you put out has honestly been so endearingly impactful for myself as well as for others. I’m very grateful for your presence of existence on this platform and in general, period. So thank you for all that you do regardless of naysayers, be they here in the comments or even in your own mind) (I actually had a dream recently where you had lots of white streaks in your hair/beard/eyelashes, think The Secret Saturday’s if you know the reference, anyways I’m so uber excited for the video and I’m looking forward to whatever else you bring on!)

Dream logic: "Oh, there goes Cthulhu walking his giraffe again. Pretty day for it."
Of course Walter doesn't question anything because none of it seems out of place in a dream. Even a lucid one.

Okay scratch that...the devs had you asking the right questions from the get-go. This has one of the most well-crafted subversions I've seen. All the little sprinkles they throw in that have you asking the right questions without knowing it only to reveal that every single oddity suddenly makes perfect sense. The story itself isn't the most impressive part, nor is the twist in a vacuum. In the context of how it's all presented right there with the story you THINK has been going on overlayed onto the real story hidden in front of you the whole time without you ever being able to guess? It's just clever. This is storytelling done right in an interactive medium and is a pretty solid argument for "games as an artform". I'm buying this knowing I'll probably never play it just on the premise that it's something that deserves support.

Wow. Just finished a full watch of this. Holy shit. We went from psychological thriller to eldritch horror to sci-fi dystopian conspiracy seamlessly and believably. The scares were done incredibly well, weren't over the top, and kept the pace going. The music is amazing, the visuals are stunning, and the voice acting is top notch. Well done devs. This has got to be a strong candidate for at least indy game of the year. Thanks for the great long form content as always IGP!

Interestingly, the fair labor standards act of 1938 has an exception for child actors (circus performers) even to this day (a few states have laws addressing this like California and New York for example). So the circus contract didn't explicitly break any laws especially since they'd "received, " the parents consent to allow the child to perform. However, forging the father's signature would've likely voided the contract. Also, the contract doesn't offer a clause for severance or termination which may have been grounds for later terminating the contract. Furthermore, while a child cannot agree to a work contract by themselves they can terminate a work contract themselves.

I know I'm late to comment but the circus you were thinking of was The Ringling Bros, Barnum and Bailey Circus, which was a merger between the Ringling Bros Travelling Circus and P.T Barnum's Greatest Show On Earth, before simplyfing the name to the Barnum and Bailey Circus, in 1919. Which fun fact after the 5 year hiatus for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus, in 2023 they were starting to go back on tour.

I always LOVE IGP’s rambles at the end of the games he plays. It’s not often you hear youtubers actually discuss their thoughts of the gameplay as deeply and emotionally invested as IGP does it, and to be quite frank it’s nice how in depth he goes into speaking about details! Love your videos always man!!

19:09 I know this isn’t a game about lucid dreaming but I do wanna say it is worth teaching yourself how to do. And surprisingly not hard. If you do wanna learn how to lucid dream here are some starting steps

1.start a dream a journal, you might think you don’t dream but this is completely untrue you just forgot if you just keep your eyes closed for an extra 1min after you wake up and focus it should come back to you (the journal doesn’t have to be anything special it can be on your notes app or a literal journal as long as long as you’re writing you dreams somewhere accessible your fine)

2. Figure out your dream signs, there will be recurring things in your dreams. This can be a person, place, or even a theme like being lost or late to something. (Note these are fluid and change you will not have the same dream signs for your whole life)

3. Learn to reality check, reality checks are things you can do to see if your dreaming or not you will perform a reality check when you see a dream sign for example if one of your common dream signs is being late and you’re late to the bus perform a reality check. Or if you see a person common in your dreams perform a reality check. (Best reality checks are clamping your nose with your fingers and seeing if you can breathe, checking a DIGITAL clock looking away and looking back if it’s the same good if not normal or the time can be messed up like 16:93, another good one is reading something like a license plate and turning around and checking back. (Also very important you dont rationally in your dreams you will most likely try to convince yourself you’re not in a dream like maybe you think your clocks broken. It’s probably not your just dreaming if your not sure perform a different reality check.) also putting your finger through your palm is a terrible method you need dream control to do that

4. Dream control, you will most likely not have great dream control. But I found the best way to have good dream control is not creating things right in front of you. For example if your in a library it’s incredibly difficult to just change it to a beach but if you convince your self that if you pull a specific book in the library a door will open which will have a portal to a beach. Or convince your self that the thing you want is behind you or behind a door. also because dreams are based off basically what you believe will happen this makes nightmares f**king horrible if your lucid dreaming.

Also lucid dreaming is not fast to learn it may take up to a month or longer to have a true lucid dream (also if you’re having dreams about lucid dreaming good your close)

Bonus: watch “Lucid Dreaming Portal” he’s by far the best lucid dreaming YouTuber.

IGP I know you might not ever read this but genuinely you are my favorite horror youtube and lets player. Too often commentators won't respect the art, story, or the medium even. I understand that horror games are games not meant to be watched but played. However I often find myself alienated from the game so I watch the lets players. Doing that helps get me in the horror mood. I like how you anxiously anticipate each turn and spend downtime rehashing information in a genuine expression of adoration for the game in a way I feel is fitting and similar to the way I engage with play. You take the time to understand the story and convey that understanding to an audience the entire time guiding us through these disparate and fractured worlds. I know you say you're old IGP but I think the day you stop posting is going to be a tragic one for a lot of us here in your youtube community. So do some (Non horror) cardio and eat clean, we want you here for a while!

IGP, long form content may be on the decline because of short attention spans but I absolutely love your videos that go well over an hour. Thanks for this 3 hour video! Have something to watch when I get home!
