I appreciate your honesty as to monitors …
I’ve been contemplating Apple’s Studio for months and this was a fair and thorough review … thank YOU

Wake me up when a 5K 120Hz QD-OLED monitor shows up. What many people don't seem to consider is a 5K monitor is the double DPI version of a 1440p monitor (as 4K is to 1080p). 1440p is currently the sweet spot for gaming. So having an all-purpose monitor that can run 5K native for general use and do a clean 1440p downscale for gaming would be, in my opinion, the *perfect* monitor. I'm surprised and disappointed that no-one is making one while 4K 240Hz OLED monitors are a thing.

People don't realize, you can't do 5K120 on Thunderbolt 4. It is nice to see Apple is rolling out Thunderbolt 5, which should be able too. I would not be surprised if Apple had a exclusive contract for 5K60 all this time, and it has expired, just in time for them to release a 5K120 (requiring Thunderbolt 5, which means a new Mac) at $1499-1799 range. Now that these 5K60s are coming out at the $800 range.

I own two 27" 5K Retina ASDs (both glossy and love them !), the displays are bright at 600 nits, the colors are vivid and accurate with the ultrawide P3 color gamut, the build quality is unparalleled, and the embedded acoustics fantastic. No macOS scaling issues with the TEXT being sharp and crisp at 5K 218 PPI compared to the blurry and distorted eye straining text of inferior 4K monitors esp while viewing code, documents, web pages etc from close distance for long hours.

I personally evaluated multiple 4K, 5K, 6K displays from third party incl Samsung, LG, Dell, BenQ, Asus etc at stores for hours and still ended up purchasing the ASDs for my M2 ultra studio and M4 Pro Mac Mini setups ! My Mac Mini M4 Pro setup with TB5 ports is already waiting for 5K 120 Hz next generation ASDs.

I am waiting to buy the next generation 32" 6K all OLED 120 Hz promotion pro XDR display with xHDR at 2500 nits and 1000, 000 + : 1 contrast ratio, VESA adapter and 360 degree arm. I'd prefer state of art embedded speakers and 4K webcam, plus multiple TB5 ports for daisy chaining multiple units.

macOS was never designed to work optimally with non-retina PPI including 32" 4K displays. The retina alignmemt happens at 4K - 21", 4.5K - 24", 5K - 27", 6K - 32". Looking forward to an ultrawide curved 8K 38"-40" OLED pannel from Apple too.and like to pair that with a custom upgraded version of the upcomimg M4 ultra mac studio spec'ed out.

The webcam on these is average and for that I use Insta 360 Link 2 which I found better than Osbot Tiny2.

Great review. I have this display and have terrible backlight bleed. Are you seeing that? Also, what utility were you using to control brightness from the Mac? I can’t seem to find anything from Asus.

I bought imac 2014, 27 inch 5K, for $200, what is different if I need to buy monitor separately?

Does it have VESA mount holes under the included mount?

Nice to finally see more 5K monitors coming out. I've been using Dell's U4025QW 5K2K ultrawide since it's release and have been super happy, both on Windows & MacOS. And yes, I primarily do productivity/video editing, so I'm happy to still see IPS until OLED's text clarity is up to par and burn-in not be a thing. lol

Better Display app fixes the scaling issues, so no need to spend hundreds and hundreds on a monitor just for the extra resolution.

I have a budget Samsung 28" 4K monitor that I'm using with my budget M4 Mac mini, and it's doing a good job. Having said that, I sure with this 5K ASUS had been on the market when I made my monitor purchase, I think it would have been worth the extra expense. I base this opinion on the ASUS ProArt 27" 2K I use with my Windows PC, an excellent monitor.

off subject, would be cool if you compared the ipad mini to the 13 inch pro.

also, does it make sense to get a mini if you have a 6, 7 inch phone?

Hello, I heard you mentioned in your video you have 3 Apple Studio Displays, do you experience High Pitch Intermittent Buzzing Noise (like Crickets)?

I just purchased the Studio Display and while connecting at different locations in my home and with different devices (MacBook Pro and iPad), I'm getting a slight buzzing noise in background, which keeps going on and off..

Would be interesting to compare the upcoming Dell UltraSharp U2725QE with 120 Hz 4K and IPS Black panel with 1:2000 contrast to this ASUS 5K. Which tradeoff is easier to take, 5K 60 Hz or 4K 120Hz with IPS Black?

can you control the monitor brightness using the apple keyboard controls?

While I cannot say anything about this 5k monitor, I have purchased an ASUS ProArt PA329CRV 4k 32inch monitor from asus and did color accuracy test throughly with my calibrite display plus, the result is fine but indicates a green tint on the white point that you can clrealy tell from naked eyes. I tested multiple times to make sure if I've made any mistakes. I dounted myself many times becasue ASUS ProArt line is ment for professionals and may youtubers are praising them. 😊I eventually chose the BENQ MA320 and got higher brightness than my macbook pro16 miniled in sdr senarios and great color accuracy. Thus, before you guys pull the trigger on any other ASUS ProArt lines, keep in mind that you might get a monitor with greenish white that you can tell not right with naked eyes.

Is Asus selling this monitor in Canada yet? Does anyone know where to buy this from Canada? Thanks.

Awesome video. I just picked up a Mac mini M4. I was wondering if there are any more budget options in terms of monitors that you would recommend?
