I had no idea the AGS101 hadn’t come out in the UK! That sucks!

Behold, there's unpopulated resistor footprints on the data lines of the microSD card slot that detach it, so if you solder an SD-Card slot in, nothing at all will happen unless you populate them too. If the voltage of the system is higher than 3.3V, e.g. it runs straight off battery voltage of 3.0-4.2V depending on charge state, then you need to ensure the supply voltage to SD-Card is 3.3V or lower and that instead of 0 Ohm links on data lines there is some resistance, like something around 100 Ohm to 1 KOhm.

I'll need some high quality pictures and designation of every little active component on the unit if you want me to help figure it out. I don't do Facebook.

I love the meta 'notes from the editor' section where you pop up after noticing those solder pads. A nice surprise in the video!

That cutaway in the middle was brilliant, I was thoroughly confused for a moment!

These were around in 2007 ish in both SP and standard GBA formats. If it's the same thing (seems to be looking at the menu) then it runs a very old Ingenic jz4725 MIPS CPU and you load ROMs on to it via a cable that is USB on one end and link port connector on the other.

That fake Gameboy was me waking up when you turned it on.

Yes that is the spot for a micro sd card slot. I dont see why it would not have the ability to recognise one. It may be worth trying to solder one on.

If the performance is trash I don't think it's worth the hastle. I just want a cheap screen to put in my original GBA

Elliot interrupting his own video to comment on his own video while editing and then editing that footage into the final edit ... wut?!?! And yes, solder in a microsd slot and resistors for the I/O pins, it will be most interesting!

There is no chip that is purly dedicated for GB/GBC games in the GBA. They refactored the CPU to become the DSP in the GBA.
And the reason why it probably doesn't work loading those games (or rather what would be expensive to implement in a clone product) is probably that the GB and GBC carts run on a different voltage. Which means more components to drive them to dump the carts to memory.

Fun seeing seeing an emulator like that so cheap that takes original carts. Or does it only take bootleg carts? But at least bootleg carts that work on original hardware.

The 'Brighter' GBA SP was released in the UK. I actually remember seeing it in Game (the shop). :-)

How do you manage to upload good content so frequently!! I hardly can manage to upload something once in a millennium!! I loved the 8:18 transition, so smooth!

I'm from Italy and when I was in elementary school EVERYONE had these, it's strange that you didn't have them in the UK but we did

The modern Exeq GameBox style is like an upgrade to this. No lag on any game I've ever played. But it can't play movie cartridges because it doesn't have as much RAM as the original.

It'd be great to get a close-up of the markings on the chips - especially the main chip, which isn't the usual chip-on-board epoxy blob.
