GoPro Hero 2 vs Hero 3 Morning Sun Testing With ProTune / WB Settings

This morning I went out to my backyard to make this video to show you what the video will look like with morning sun with White Balance settings and ProTune is on BEFORE the color correction.
If ProTune is not on, then White Balance will not show up on the camera.

Good question. I'd like to know the same thing. I understand the concept that Protune requires post production, but if that video at 10 has protune OFF, then that's a problem.

this video is about testing to see clips using protune settings without editing with color correction, just want to show people before they make a mistake to put wrong settings on hero 3 to film

That depends on how involved you want to get. You can use GoPro Cineform Studio to color your clips, or use your editing suites included color correction tools. For more advanced coloring, you can always pick up a professional grade coloring standalone suite.

I heard that silver has better quality over white, silver is more like hero 2, white is more like hero 1 original, so just go for silver

my old lcd works fine on hero 3 but didn't show the menu, I couldn't find it

Of course you can but its like starting from a bass-line, like a music producer will use monitors rather than speakers which have no EQ enhancements (like colour enhancements on a video). It makes it quicker and easier.

I hardly use protune under the water... if you want to... use auto or cam raw... if you don't have red or magenta filter on the case

yes of course theoretically changing the tunes is an amazing option - but only if there is at least one setting which is acceptable. Thanks to Mitch's demonstration I found out that all were horrible, of course according to my personal impression - means, taste is different, and none of these samples did fit to my personal and individual taste ... ;-)
so, I am happy having seen this video, better for me to wait, maybe they do soon a firmware update which adjusts the cam to my expectations ;-)

Well the point of using protune is to post process it afterwards :) so yeah if you don't want to do that your choice might be the right one.

I have a hero 2 and I'm happy to see the difference I saw a video here in Brazil comparing also pictures and videos of hero 3 was darker than the hero 2 recorded in the sun so earned in color tone that was more alive I did not see change acting at all ... This is the 3rd video I see here from abroad who do not think ... congratulations to you guys there who take this doubt love the USA

Another excellent video.... Hero 2 appears significantly better in the morning sun but Hero 3 is noticeably better under water.

Probably they will show up in your menu when you enable protune and white balance

mmm, watching this comparision I doubt whether post processing may really improve anything - white balance, colour depth, contrasts, everthing seems to be much worse compared to hero2.
I am really disappointed - I expected at least same results as from a h2 when pt is off, and better ones if it is on auto.
I would like to see more such comparisions from other hero3 owners, maybe it is just an issue of this specific cam? Mitch updated already the firmware, but maybe it is a hardware problem?

It would be good if Gopro would include (additional) color profile from Hero2 on the Hero3. I personally downgraded back to Hero 2 and this video perfectly shows why. Zero post processing required, point and shoot = job done!
