Turning Red | Teaser Trailer

Growing up is a beast. Check out the new trailer for the upcoming all-new original feature film “Turning Red” from Pixar Animation Studios’ director Domee Shi, who won an Oscar® for her 2018 short film, “Bao.” Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. Directed by Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins, Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” releases March 11, 2022.

This was the perfect trailer for this movie. I had no idea what to expect and didn't watch any other trailers going into it. This teaser perfectly teases the concept of the film without giving too much away. Most trailers these days just show the whole movie. This movie itself was very fun and had a great message. At first I felt that the quality wasn't going to be as good as pixar movies from the 2000s - 2010s era but i was in tears for the whole final act and enjoyed every minute of the fun along the way.

There’s a poster that has Mei in her red panda form with her student id. It says the school year is 2002-2003. Guess that’s why we’re hearing the Backstreet Boys.

Larger than Life is actually fitting for two reasons.
1. Mei becomes “larger than life” in her red panda state.
2. The song is by a boy band and there’s a plot point involving a boy band performing in concert (in which Mei and her friends are huge fans of and raise money to see them).

my sneaking suspicion: her mom also became a red panda when she was a teen when feeling extreme emotion that's why she's so protective of her daughter. she also doesn't look surprised but more determined when mei lee is running away.

I gotta say, I love the fact they didn't give her long eyelashes, breast or a stupid pink bow for her animal version. I've always found that weird in animated movies when female animals are depicted with those.
