THREE OF HEARTS

123   456   789
456   123   789  
3789    21654    three   (1 to 9 all when spelt in English will have atleast 3 letters, implies 654 will form at last no matter what)
8921654    73    of       (four digits then 654 implies that 6 is in 5th position-or middle of deck)
4735       61298     hearts   all have atleast 5 digits so digit 6 will take middle position of the deck of 9 cards no matter what)
47356  1298   magic   (magic has 5 letters which counts to middle of deck, ie, 6)

Beautiful trick. Here is a rundown if you dont understand it:

You have to put your chosen staple on top of the other staples in the beginning.

Our card is at position #3 from the top.

You count down the name of the card, all card names are 3 or more characters. You put the other cards on top.

Our card is now position #3 from the bottom.

You put the other cards on top, then count down "of", 2 cards, and put the other cards on top.

Our card is now #5 from the bottom.

You count down the name of the card suit. All suits are 5 or more characters.

Our card is still #5 from the bottom.

You put the other cards on top. You count down "magic", 5 cards.

As our card is #5 from the bottom, flipping around the last card of "magic" will always be our card (m-a-g-i-c = 4 from the top, next card is #5 from the bottom = our card).

If you’re not following, do the trick face up (and if you’re still not following make your stacks 8 black cards and make your target a red. Then you can see how the card changes position, and why the spelling deal always moves it the same way.)

To start with, after being chosen by the audience, the selected card must in position 3 of the combined deck. Because we’re dealing from top down, the 1st card dealt becomes the last card in what will be our new stack, the 2nd becomes the second to last, and the #3 card (our target) always goes to position 7 after the first round, no matter we spell out 3 letters or more. (No card rank is shorter than 3 letters, so it will always be dealt 3rd, and we don’t care about the order of the deal after that).

In round 2, spelling ‘of’ means all cards get bumped up two positions. So the 7 card gets bumped up to position 5. (And again - because all the suits are spelled 5 letters or longer, after dealing our target card to the table, it will always be in position 5.)

You could have the crowd come up with the final word if you memorized a few simple ones… ‘MAGIC’ just gets you to position 5. You could choose to do 4 letters (‘TA DA’)to deal 4 and turn over the 5th. If someone says ‘ABRA CADABRA’ you can count a syllable at a time A-B then restack, C-A restack, DAB restack, RA - and that gets you to the 5th also…

What’s awesome about this trick is I’m pretty sure you don’t even have to spell the selected card. You can spell any card in the deck and it should still remain in 5th position!
