How to Perform an ECG / Electrocardiogram - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill

Whilst perhaps not a core day to day skill of the medic, being able to take an ECG is a valuable skill. Although perhaps less than the interpretation of the ECG which we will look to cover in another video

The ECG or Electrocardiogram is a core part of any cardiology examination, and thus would expect to undertake in order to complete the cardiac exam - as can be seen here

This video will go over the ECG lead placement for a 12 lead electrocardiogram.

The 12 lead ECG consists of 6 chest leads - lead V1-V6 and four cables to the limbs, allowing the recording of 6 limb leads, leads I, II, III, aVF, aVR and aVL

'asked to do an examination of yourself' gets me every time. Its a very formal phrasing that I haven't heard outside of Dr. Gill's videos.

The way he threw his shirt at the beginning and Dr. Gill just watched it fly away
And the way he went to find it at 5:01

My 7yo daughter is scheduled to take an ECG test soon and she wanted to know how it works and what she should expect. I already experienced taking an ECG test before so I tried describing it to her the best I could but she started crying, afraid that it might hurt. I think I poorly chose my words maybe because my experience wasn't very pleasant (I thought that's how ECG normally works). After I saw this video and showed it to her, she then became smug and said "I can do that!" I'm happy there's a simple video like this to show her. It sounds like she'll be okay and she's also confident now on top of not crying anymore. I hope we won't have a problem doing it soon. Thank you for showing this to us.

Whoah, Dr. Gill, there was clear malpractice here! The patient confirmed their name in the beginning, but it was clearly not the patient you were meant to examine, as we can see at around 2:10, the patient that was meant to receive the treatment was Mr. Mouse Mickey! Hope there are no legal consequences for you or anything!
