As that one Michael Buble interview once said "steal from them all because if you steal from one you're a theif but if you steal from everyone you can call it research"

Identity theft is not a joke, Jim! It's an integral part of becoming better at DnD!

For context:

It was about Lou and Anjali rolling against each other. Her character treated him coldly like they didn’t know each other(despite having met several times and fought alongside each other).

Lou asked to roll insight on if she was mad at him and felt slighted or if it was an act. Matt had Lou roll insight and told Anjali “roll either deception or persuasion, don’t tell me which, and give me the result”. This clip is from the after episode discussion.

So basically, if she wins the roll, then she can say “I’m not mad” and Lou won’t know whether she is deceiving Lou(deception) or if she was telling the truth(persuasion).

Yet another example of how TTRPGs are a form of folk art. It's just folks telling tales around a campfire but with math and gambling.

Brennan's like Thanos collecting Infinity Stones. He got the idea of "Here's what you don't see" from Aabria, "deception or persuasion" from Matt, and that "death save throw behind a curtain" idea from that one guy (sorry there are a lot of you guys). And when he is done he will rest and watch over a grateful universe.

Brennan is like "That's exactly what I've done ever since 5 seconds ago."

Aabria’s “here’s what you DON’T see” is something I just adore so much. I’ve wanted to use it for a while when DMing but keep forgetting it in the moment.

I am once again asking for an all DM season, DM'd by Brennan after stealing every DM trick in the book.

Matt's attitude here is great, I love win/win thinking. Our group is definitely adopting this as well :)

I like how Matt says "We all steal from each other, it makes us all better"
People are often afraid of stepping on toes, or hurting feelings, but taking something someone does well does nothing but improve things for everyone! (In a context like this, not always of course).

This is what I like about their collaborations. You can't help but pick up new tricks/ways of running the game when you work with other people operating in the same space.

I always love a good communal swapping of ideas and tactics in creative spaces. Everyone walks away a winner and stories only get better in the future.

I did this a couple weeks ago. They thought they found the Person they'd been searching for, but when someone rolled an insight check on the NPC I only smiled in response and as they thought they were right, they rapidly fired off questions that he answered with truth. The next session they found out he was his son and they now mistrust everything I say. 😅

I love great DMs building off of each other and learning from each other

I learned so much from that special where Aabria brennan and matt talked wish they did that more often

My DM and myself have both taken this into our own games.

Ooh, I'm definitely going to propose that to my friends. I just started playing a new character who's a compulsive liar, and I noticed it put players in an awkward situation when they knew I rolled deception but their character failed the check.

Seeing Brennan use this in the Neverafter campaign and to a similar degree in Mentopolis was so much fun!
