Silvery Barbs is not a hidden spell. The target actively knows they are beimg targeted by a hostile magical enchantment. Meta gaming aside, Brennan's character would recognize immediately that they were under attack by an enemy spellcaster and react accordingly.
They may as well have casy charm person in PvP.

Silvery Barbs is simultaneously the greatest and most obnoxious spell in the game, if the person using it is a good sport it makes for super cool turn-the-tables moments when it's most needed, but if they're just abusing it to win it makes a party stupidly OP.

Realistically Carna should have no way of knowing that the Bishop was doing anything untoward so the Silvery Barbs feels a little meta-gamey. But it’s still a cool moment nonetheless. Really shows off that Raphaniel is a master manipulator.

I wouldn't allow silvery barbs for a skill check that the caster shouldn't realize is a check. If they're being fooled in character, it shouldn't occur to them to cast an opposing spell. That's purely meta knowledge.

Gah Silvery Barbs is like the most OP spell Ever. Forces disadvantage and then Gives advantage to yourself or someone else. Amazing- but I also imagine a DMs nightmare.
