Avatars are definitions for how animations affect the transforms of a model. In this video you will learn how Unity handles the configuration of avatars as well as how to configure your own.

This is exactly the video I was looking for. Unity's way of exposing a model's rig, and the way it organizes things using avatars and whatnot was very confusing. This clears it up a bit, though Unity should still focus on simplifying it quite a bit!

Some powerful stuff! hopefully I can use it in my animation project I'm currently working on through Unity. Thanks for taking the time to explain it in fine detail.

Did you ever cover how to manually configure an avatar? I don't think it ever came up again

Hi, i had a question. What if i randomly download a rig and animate it then export to the unity. The question is which rig works?? how and why? what kind of rig is possible or easier or best compatible to use with unity? there is no one in this world who can provide answers for this i guess. What are the conditions?

"required human bone head not found" what does this mean can you help me mister?

Do I need one if my model is made using Unity's shapes, then I use Ragdoll Wizard to make it into ragdoll, then I set all limbs to kinematic?

Not understanding the point of configuration (except for assigning bones to use other humanoid animations). So assign all the correct bones, I limit all the rotations and settings on muscles, save it all, import into a scene, grab a bone and I can just rotate it 360+ degrees in any way I like. This doesn't really help. How can I animate this with rotations? Or are these only going to apply during a ragdoll state or an during an imported animation.

In about every avatar for VRChat the camera goes in the stomach or chest when using the proneidle position. Is there a way to fix this? If so, how do you fix it?

So, in Unity 2017, they removed the number value from the inspector and there is only a slider. So, am I supposed to look at the exact pixel under a magnifying glass to make sure the limbs are identical on both sides?

I am trying to get the 3D character in my scene. Is there an option in unity that allows you to create a humanoid 3D character in my unity editor? If yes, where?

I want that Avatar Inspector window too! How can I open it in Unity 2020.1?

I don't understand why in 2019 Unity, when you import a FBX Character animation, it doesnt import the avatar from you FBX file

Can Unity Please create a tutorial for Modular Characters, as in 1 animator, 1 avatar mask, A dozen of meshes bind to the same skeleton but are in different .fbx files.

Is Ethan the only 3d humanoid available in the Unity's standard assets? I would like to have the 3d model, for that Unity model, when I select an animation .fbx.
