I am a 32 year old American from the state of Kentucky but I got alot of Irish blood of course, but never really knew anything about my heritage so to speak, and so when I was 20 I went learning about Ireland and discovered the dubliners and my God am I grateful!! These men are my absolute heroes! My goal in life is to some day write a script for a movie about the dubliners! And the opening scene will be that story of the time they played a show but the guy who was gonna pay them said if they show up drunk he wouldn't pay them, so the boys decided to just have 4 pints each, ya know so they wouldn't be drunk, LOL they played the show and the dude said he wouldn't pay cause he thought they were drunk, so to prove he wasn't drunk barney went across the street to and climbed up a radio tower and started combing his hair! Like "see! Could I do this if I was drunk??" The cops showed up and tried to get him down but barney refused to come down until they promised not to arrest him! Haha! These men NEED A MOVIE!!

My father in law is from Ireland. You can imagine how happy he is that my 2 year old son loves the Dubliners! We play some of their stuff on the TV and he loves it

Absolutely love this group. I know there’s loads of Irish folk bands out there, but none are quite like The Dubliners. Rest In Peace, Luke and Ronnie. Cheers!🍻

They had their distinct sound, and were strong in all aspects: vocalists, banjo, fiddle, whistle, mandolin, squeeze box, et al. They weren’t Toney, so everyone related to them quickly.

Ronnie Drew and Barney McKenna, Ciaran Bourke, and Luke Kelly were the original set. Shortly after, Bob Lynch and John Sheehan joined. Bob went to America. The remaining five were what the average person thought of as the Dubliners. But Luke Kelly passed in about 1980. They have augmented over the years with other outstanding talents: Jim McCann, Paddy Reilly, Sean Cannon, Eammon Campbell and lots of others. Their sound keeps on surviving, because the people loved it.

As a guy from a small town in Iowa I am so very blessed that “Whiskey In The Jar” came up on a list of the Top 10 Best Drinking Songs. Had it not been for that list I may not have ever listened to any of their amazing songs. I only wish I could have seen them live just once.

Tragic loss of Luke Kelly, so young. Wonderful poetry. Favourite song, Scorn Not His Simplicity

Grew up listening to them. I have only ever cried once at the passing of an artist and that was "Banjo" Barney Mckenna. His rendition of "the fiddler's green" is filled with such emotion that it boggles the mind.
