Since 1962, The Dubliners have been enthralling audiences worldwide with their music and song. The strength and attractiveness of The Dubliners has always been in the personalities of the musicians who have made up this boisterous band of balladeers, from original members, Ronnie Drew, Barney McKenna, Luke Kelly, Ciarán Bourke, John Sheahan and Bob Lynch to the arrival at different stages of Jim McCann, Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campbell and finally the peerless Paddy Reilly.

As a Northern Irish man I love this music. I look deeper into this song and truly wish that everyone, not only on this island but beyond, that everyone can live as one, to live as human beings and love and respect every culture, race and creed. For our daughters and sons to follow to live with love and respect is all we can ever hope. I hope in my life time I shall see this happen.

I fell in love with an Irish girl while we listened to this song. She’s gone now but I will remember her until I die.

I was born in England but my ancestors were Irish and left after the famine. I sang this song to a retirement community in Canberra Australia a couple of days ago and could not keep the tears back as I sang it. I noticed people in the audience also crying. It is such a sad song, and Paddy O’Reilly sings it so well. History contained some tragic situations. Let us hope that in this day and age we can all live in peace together. Unfortunately there is still so much tragedy and conflict in the world. May we all pray that this conflict is soon resolved.

The Irish fans sang this song when I attended the Euros 2016 in France! I really wish we had a song like this in Sweden, a song all fans know and can sing together! The Irish fans were amazing!

My dear departed husband and I spent 51 years together but now he has gone to a better place. Yes it is lonely round the Fields of Athenry without him albeit I live in Kent. God bless him and God bless the Dubliners for making such beautiful music and singing it so soulfully. Thank you.

Sad to think many of these great musicians are gone/retired now. Much love to the people in Ireland from Estonia.

As an Irish-Australian, I see this as a love letter from the Irish to all Irish who had to leave for one reason or another. I believe it to be the anthem for all the world's Irish.

Rest in Peace Pete St. John! Man who wrote perhaps the greatest songs in the unmatched history of Irish music.

"Michael, they have taken you away.
For you stole Trevelyan's corn,
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting at the bay."
Still some of the most poignant words ever written, spoken and sung. 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶 🎵
Blessings. ☘️ 🍀 ☘️ 🍀 ☘️ 🍀 ☘️

My grandfather lived for this music.
The more of the Dubliners dying, the more I lose my grandfather.
