From The Late Late Show - Tribute to The Dubliners March 1987
This is the first performance of their hit single - The Irish Rover which reached number 8 in the UK singles charts. It was Eamonn Campbell who came up with the idea to record a song with The Pogues for The Dubliners 25 Years Celebration album that he was producing at the time. It was Barney McKenna who thought of the song. One of the great collaborations.

RIP both Ronnie Drew (1934-2008) and Shane MacGowan (1957-2023).
Two wonderful vocalists of two great folk Irish bands who will be remembered forever.
This performance just sees the Dubliners and Pogues enjoy a good laugh on stage with a modern Irish jig still played every 17th March today.

The blood alcohol level on that stage would have defied physics. And yet, a true and brilliant performance.

Not ashamed to say I cried hearing about Shane McGowan today. What a talent. Will never not love The Pogues (and the Dubs), especially this song.

The fact that the younger musicians looks so happy to play with these legends and that the older musician looks at the younger musician with proud eyes is really beautiful.

I want to be in a tiny Irish pub, with a low ceiling, wood panelled, Guinness in hand and singing this with everyone there. Love Ireland. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

The look on Ronnie's face when Mcgowen leads into the crescendo is just great, two bands showin' each other a glimpse of the different roads they walked. Just awesome.

Musically talented men, that grew up in a different Ireland, most got the boat to England for work, started bands/ groups out of loneliness to pass those lonely evening, comforted by drink, they turned out to be musical geniuses, you gotta love the irish, god bless them all.

I'll never tire of this. Everyone seemed to be having such a blast. In the middle of a party, a song broke out.
