▬ Information ▬
House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself. The main contenders are Houses Targaryen, Hightower, Stark, Baratheon, Arryn and Velaryon.

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, and interweaves several plot lines with a large ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a civil conflict among several noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the attempts to reclaim the throne by the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty; the third chronicles the rising threat of the impending winter, the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North.

I don't have a problem with two people in a room talking. I have a problem with them being in same room when it makes no sense, talking in ways about about things that make no sense. Yes, I'm mainly talking about both Rhaenyra/Alicent scenes.

This season wasn't boring because it was two people in a room talking. It's boring because majority of those dialogues had no weight to them, no meaning, no foreshadowing, no payoff. It was just random chit chat

The idea of all the spin-off shows being tied in with the white walkers just gives me Star Wars flashbacks.
A show might be pretty good; but the universe ultimately ends up in something that wasn't well thought out or even satisfying at all.

I'm not bored of two people sitting in a room talking. But I'm extremely bored by the "now is the time for war, but actually no, but actually we have to do something, but no actually we can't. Armies marching and fighting already? Oh these men can't wait for war, but we women must stick together and stop the war that we already started".

Cmon man, that shot of Rhaenyra at the end of S1 meant war and she couldn't have backpedaled any harder or more often.

I don't mind not having a battle at the end or the pacing of the show. What I don't understand is with the story changes how are they actually going to do the dance of the dragons now that Alicent is a traitor, Helena doesn't care about her child being killed, nettles doesn't exist and so on.

Some of these GOT/HOTD YouTubers are starting to talk down to fans like they shouldn’t feel what they’re feeling about the show. Dismissing people’s valid feelings about the show as illogical or silly. No, you don’t get to tell fans what or how to feel. Season 2 of HOTD was not good and lacked coherence or substance with inconsistent storytelling and unrecognizable characters. Fans should be able to say that without some smarty pants thumbing their noses at them or scolding them.

It’s not because of the reduced episode but horrible writing that’s killing these characters. No excuses for what the did to a lot of these characters

Really just feels like there's no substance at all behind 90% of the show, and none of the characters motivations make any sense. It feels like the dialogue and peoples actions are completely disconnected.

My biggest gripe with season 2 is that Driftmark is reduced to a dock 😂

Definitely had more Season 5 energy than i was comfy with. There are several major issues but they are mostly isolated to specific characters or plot threads so the damage is mostly contained. Not as good as GOT S1-4 but also not as bad as S5-8

For the millionth time, we're not bored because there is dialogue. We're bored because the dialogue wasn't written well. Peter dinklage even went on a podcast recently to talk about how iconic the dialogue and one-liners were on GoT to the extent that many of em ended up on tshirts and mugs. Since casual viewers makeup the show fanbase, of course they were bored that HoD S2 didn't provide any of that

They made every Character this season take the most passive path possible apart from when Alicent and Rhaenyra were teleporting to each other, Aemond but we were told what he was doing rather than shown a lot of the time and Cristin Cole who did stuff but always while being mopey.

Just because you don’t agree with opinions other than yours, doesn’t make you right or wrong for that matter.

This show was doomed the moment they decided that Aegon's dream/prophecy and that stupid fucking dagger. Constantly leaning on "setting up" the horrible Game of Thrones ending is a terrible thing to do. I also would argue that Daemon's "change of heart" being based on the stupid fucking prophecy and not something more nuanced DOES "ruin" season 2 somewhat ... bad enough that the whole cause of the civil war has seemingly been reduced to "Allicent made an ooopsy" with Viserys' last words, but they just keep compounding the problem with the prophecy and that stupid fucking dagger. HotD season 2 isn't GoT season 8 bad, but it's definitely GoT season 5 bad.

I'm not really a fan of this "fuck the suits!!!!" attitude being used to defend this season. Look, a couple more episodes would have helped, but the more fundamental problem is the writing.

In season 1 the writers were accused of white washing the blacks, and season 2 dialled that up to 11. They focused way too much on Alicent and rhanera while giving them nothing to do.
More important elements like Cole and Corleys got sidelined and replaced with nothing. Rheneras daughter went nowhere and it's just more wasted time.

2 more episodes would not have fixed anything major.

Why do you presume that people calling it boring, their problem is there's dialogue and no action scenes? Two-people-in-a-room is not an auto win. It will be boring if not done well.

What annoyed me the most was the Alicent and Rhaenyra stuff. Also, the fact that even after the end point of season 1, there was no war. War should be all out, especially after blood and cheese, that moment met no going back. So yeah, I was truly irritated when the Alicent and Rhaenyra scenes happened.

What went wrong is that the show writers wanted to write their Team Rhaenyra fanfiction instead of adapting the source material.

Yes, the scripts were “done” …but the strike highlighted just how important live rewrites and refinements are.

Game of Thrones was stupid, but I was never bored while watching that show. There was always something happening. Breaking Bad didn’t have dragons, most episodes had dialogue, but that show is the greatest of all time.

These writers suck at writing. And that’s that. 🤧
