Neil deGrasse Tyson on the Andromeda–Milky Way galactic collision.

Neil deGrasse Tyson discusses the collision between the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies. Both galaxies are on a collision course that will occur in about 5 to 6 billion years. Despite this collision, individual stars are unlikely to physically collide due to the vast distances between them. Instead, their gravitational forces will interact, resulting in the formation of a single, larger galaxy, approximately twice the size of either original galaxy.

My life partner is in andromeda,
we are made for each other . I’ll wait for her no matter how many billions years it takes .
We are attracting to each other in slow
matters of time but fast in matter of space.

I'd better stock up on toilet paper.

Maybe then we won’t use terms like “unalive” for when we collide with this galaxy 🤨

Really in 6 billion years. He made it sound like it happens tomorrow.

I’ll make sure that I’m not out on that day, not too sure if it’s going to be a Tuesday or a Wednesday…?

Now, four and a half billion year is a long time.
If anything could change the course of Andromeda, that is enough time. 💡

If the universe is expanding then how are we colliding with another galaxy? I thought everything gets farther apart.

It's supposedly happening now and we just noticed. 4.5 billion years or so off.

I heard we already are in contact with it. Just the very outside dust is. But yea. Scary stuff.
