Suppesor = muzzle flash
Silencer= james bond

I saw a short earlier from falconclaw where they tested the flashes of different muzzle devices through NVGs and thermals and the suppressed shots actually had a slightly bigger muzzleflash

Once the enemy gets NVG equipment, the military will have to adapt because looking through NVG devices amplifies the flash signature if the weapon is suppressed, versus unsuppressed .
And the term “silencer” is what was used when the devise went under a patent, so silencer is the correct name however suppressed is the correct definition when describing what it actually does.

The welrod was one of the quietest suppressed guns due to the bolt design but it only lasted a few shots before the baffles plugged making each shot louder than the last it was very impressive pistol of the early 1900s

True, but depending on what you’re shooting it can be pretty quiet. I had a .22lr that was suppressed and shooting subsonics I could hear the bullet hit the paper.

Well it is a silencer the man who invented it called it that. If your being technical dont call a bullet a round anymore there not round. Matter a fact bullet means small ball. So dont call them bullets anymore either unless you got a musket. See how stupid we can get with technical talking. Its a fucking silencer. Suppressor, can whatever you wanna call it.

unless your ops have nvgs and thermals too then suppressors bloom out and are more noticeable then a unthreaded barrel

Isn't a suppressor and silencer just two different terms for the same thing, primarily reduces noise by trapping expanding gas from the firearm. He's confusing it with a flash suppressor/hider.

you infact DO need to wear some sort of ear protection with larger calibers (anything above a short 9mm) because the muzzle blast might be eliminated but the bullet still goes supersonic and that is also really really loud

Dont suppressors suppress the gasses that come out when shooting?

But pair a silencer with subsonic ammo and you've basically got a killer bb gun

100% recommend wearing ear pro if you’re not shooting subsonic ammo. Don’t damage your hearing. That supersonic crack is still loud af.

Pretty sure you need ear protection when you shoot with a suppressor unless you use subsonic rounds

Well put. Lmao rhe john wick scene where the supressors are just magic

The only way a supressor makes the round whisper quiet is if your using sub sonic ammunition while having a supressor on your weapon.

But lets be clear the terminal ballistics of that round are only good in close quarters. Once you start getting out to 100yds or more the round is ineffective unless you hit extremely soft targets on the body such as the neck, face, groin, etc.

It is used to dissipate the gas to make it quieter n to get rid the flash

So whats the diffrence between a supressor and flash hider?
