I’m pushing 50 and have read this story countless times in all it’s published versions and your telling still of it still has the power to move me to tears, and we haven’t even gotten to the real tragedies yet. Thanks for your work! Tolkien is my therapist so that includes you too! Much obliged.

35:06 I had never realized that before Húrin marched off to mankind's most devastating war yet, Tolkien had him say basically the exact same words that he and his friends would have heard over and over again at the beginning of WW1...

Great, this story just keeps finding new ways to absolutely devastate me.

This is my favorite of Tolkein's works. I find it profound, gripping, and emotional. Very underrated in my belief.

That one line is just so much more powerful coming from Tolkien “The war will be over by Christmas” it’s just such a heartfelt line coming from not only Húrin who did not now the gravity of his words but also from Tolkien who knew exactly what they meant.

I’m so happy to have you breaking down these tales for us again. I’ve read Tolkien in and out, but the emotion you have for the literature brings it to life.

I've got to say: the first time i read the unfinished tales' ( a lot more so than the silmarilion version ) take on turin i've asked myself "is this really tolkien?". It really served to deconstruct everything i thought i knew about the professor's writing style (mind you, i've not read the standalone 'children of hurin' novel before) and the kind of story i should expect from him. The children of hurin is my favorite tolkien story (even thought the characters may not be my favorite Tolkien characters). For this reason, I cannot explain further than "i never expected this from Tolkien" and I think that your way of presenting this story is one of the best ways i can think of honoring the professor's writing!

The courage of Húrin to say those words to Morgoth’s face astounds me.

I swear these videos are so much better than any of the episodes of the rings of power. Great job🎉

I was not expecting this early in the morning, however this is fortunate to listen to while I'm working.

I tried to read the Silmarillion about 15 years ago, the writing was...regrettably, too much for me. I did manage to get through Beren & Luthean...but faltered on the rest and never completed it. However, your videos have not only rekindled the desire to havr another crack at it, but covered things in a way that is easy to grasp and full of emotion. Keep the first age alive! Keep the videos coming! Awesome, simply awesome work my man.

Man this is such a epically tragic story. I love Hurin his bravery and defiance in the presences of pure evil is so admirable even though the consequences are unimaginably horrific. Awesome video Rainbow Dave!

I'm 52. I've been watching these videos [at work (and at home)] for the past week or so. To think someone could get me to look even closer at something I thought I knew so well. Jeez. Thinking about the feelings of the characters in The Silmarrillilion 😮.
