Glaurung is my favorite Tolkien villain because he's the only one who dies fulfilling exactly what he set out to do. He even goes out with a smile.

"At this time, Brandir fall madly in love with Niniel, but she viewed him as a brother, and it was to Turambar that her heart was given"
Brandir: *Confused screaming*
Hurin: *Horrified screaming*

Túrin's tale is a pure contrast to Beren's and Lúthien's. There's no part of its ending that you can say that it had a positive effect. Sure, you could say that Glaurung died, but Morgoth had already plenty of other dragons and kept brooding more.

Brutal. This is where you really feel the curse is no joke. What an absolute tragedy.

It is for the tragedy of this story that I wish the Dagor Dagorath was included in the Silmarillion. After all Turin suffered, him getting to make the final killing blow on Morgoth was deserved. Hope you guys eventually cover the Dagor Dagorath.

6:00 I don't want to laugh but there's something so inherently funny about the way Teiglin is animated falling after catching a rock to the face. Especially that sound effect.

Absolutely love Hurin and‘s and his kin’s tales, they are amongst my all-time favorites in Middle Earth.
“ well met Dragon..”

Of all the tales of men, few are more tragic than the Tale of Hurin.

"Then they lifted up Turin, and saw that his sword was broken asunder, So passed all that he possessed..." Explains where the shards came from

Then shall the Last Battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Morgoth, and on his right hand shall be Fionwë, and on his left Túrin Turambar, son of Húrin, coming from the Halls of Mandos; and the black sword of Túrin shall deal unto Morgoth his death and final end; and so shall the children of Húrin and all Men be avenged.

I know it’s debated wether this is cannon in Tolkiens lore or abandoned legend but it still gives some some comfort and reprieve after such a heart rending story

Yknow between watching these videos on the greatest romance of Middle Earth juxtaposed with the greatest tragedy of Middle Earth, I'm convinced that it is Glaurung, not Sauron, who was Morgoth's greatest minion of the First Age.

Granted it could just be that we only know of what Sauron did during the Beren/Luthien story, but still. Part of me is thinking that the only reason Sauron took over Morgoth's affairs after the War of Wrath is because he is compensating for getting his ass kicked by a mythical dog.

Just when it couldn’t get worse. Tolkien just adds in the bit where it’s Hurin and Morwen at their children’s grave

The ending of the book is so moving. Its heart breaking yet I love it.

It should be noted that Nienor (later Níniel) in her panicked amnesiac state had ripped and torn her clothes off as she ran like a deer in fright. When she was found collapsed on Haudh-en-Elleth (Finduilas' burial mound) she was naked as an animal.

Thanks for a wonderful video. Very good. And I feel very emotional. Well done!

I say this is one of Morgoth's blackest crimes imaginable. All done out of pure spite and malice. It feels right that during the Last Battle, a reincarnated Turin would drive his sword through the chest of that foul being of evil, vanquishing him permanently.

In a parallel universe...
Glaurung: "You're banging your own brother."
Niniel: "You have no power here. We're into that shit."
Glaurung "Pro move." *dies*

I wasn't expecting to weep during my lunchbreak.

Not many writers can call such emotions in me, but Tolkien is one of those few.

I am shocked at how dark this is. Horrifying for the heroes, very sad for Hurin the old warrior.

And that burial mound survived the War of Wrath and sinking of Beleriand to become Tol Morwen, the westernmost isle off the coast of Lindon in the Second and Third Ages.
