A tip my dad taught me to remember when to switch gears is 1-10 mph= 1st gear, 20mph=2nd gear, 30mph=3rd gear, 40mph=4th gear, 50mph= 5th gear unless you have more than 5 gears. Of course this isn’t perfectly accurate, but it helps (especially when you’re first learning).

Another tip to avoid stalling is always add a bit of gas when lifting clutch slowly, you’ll never stall.

as a british person who learnt in manual, we’re taught to use the accelerator (gas) whilst coming of the clutch, and don’t rush off the clutch. if you’re doing it well, you shouldn’t feel the gear change at all. practice makes perfect though!! most people have 30+ hours of lessons before they take their test so don’t get disheartened if you can’t do it straight away!! x

From a learners perspective as a starter these steps definitely helped a lot and one thing I liked is how smooth your shifting is ! And like you said towards the ending about how driving a manual transmission gets you a special connection with the car is very true!! You legit just made this so much easier. I was driving my friend’s ‘15 Mustang GT and revving it while letting off the clutch… I didn’t realize I could ease off the clutch, THEN give it gas

Really awesome video, man. You're a natural teacher--very concise and easy to understand instruction. The camera angles of the shifter and pedals added to the ease of learning. I really appreciate this. I'm kicking myself in the butt now, because I purchased a 2022 Civic Touring last week. I wanted to hold off for the manual trans hatchback or even the Si; however, I need a car before then. All this had me thinking I was never destined to learn or get a manual car lol. But with your helpful video and clear enthusiasm for stick shift, now it's got me thinking of possibly trading my car in once the 2022 manuals drop lol. Anyways, I'll shut up. Loved this video. I just got a new clutch on an old car and it really helped me to relearn to go slow with 1st and 2nd. My old clutch was just pray and hope it goes! Thanks and RPMs are important. That’s how I learned by watching my RPMs.
