You don't need to press the clutch that early, in fact, you use your brakes more if you press the clutch when you stop. You only need to press the clutch right before becoming stationary, and downshifting is also not that necessary, you can just brake on whatever gear your on.

Don't get clutch happy. Into neutral, use the brakes. Much cheaper to replace. Also, manufacturers are stopping production on standard transmissions. So....

The driving style we learn in the Netherlands the last few years is that when approaching a stoplight, just release the gas pedal, slowing down the car on the engine, no clutch and/or shifting. If needed use the brake to a full stop. Just before the car is completely stopped, like in the last 10meters, push clutch and shift to first gear. If the light goes to green before a full stop has completed, just shift to second gear instead and push the gas pedal….

Do that and you'll wear your shift faster than it should. Use brakes to stop, shift down IF you are only slowing down and going to keep moving or assist brakes in a harder stop situation. Sorry for bad english
