They used to actually have real names in games, especially in older games (think the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games). I believe some of the earlier Call of Duty titles also used real names as well? But then there was a change and EA, Activision and other top publishers opted to stop using real names of weapons in games to reduce promoting "gun violence".

I "recommend" that the ATF kindly leave before we firmly "ask" them to leave.

I’m not a lawyer, but I did see a video a while ago explaining that there is no legal ground for suing, but I’m not 100% sure.
It was about when Activision got sued by the Humvee company for their car being destroyed in MW3 without their permission, it didn’t go anywhere but it did cost munyz.
So they just stopped using real names & accurate models to avoid having to deal with a potential lawsuit that won’t go anywhere.

Games used to use official names. Using fake names is a recent trend

I still remember playing with a yellowed CRT monitor and an IBM PC, playing CS 1.6, using the "Maverick Carbine" with a "Night Hawk .50c" as a sidearm fighting againts other players using the "CV-47".

I think it's charming that this tradition of skimping out on licensing is still relevant because that CV-47 is now a Kastav 762 and the Night Hawk .50c is a ".50 GS"

Another reason games recently stopped putting the real names for firearms is because California put in a law that make “advertising firearms to minors” illegal, but they see (real) firearms in video games as advertising, so the game can actually get banned or shut down because of it

You are not supposed to put a serial number on it. Self manufactured firearms for personal use does not require a serial number. The kits that are sold with a slide are now considered firearms but an 80%frame by itself is still not regulated

You actually don’t have to put a serial number on a home made gun

You can sell self-built firearms in private sales, you cannot make them to sell them though.

This reminds me, I still wonder how easy or difficult it would be for a gunsmith to put together those hybrid guns from MGSV. I feel like there might be an untapped market there.

Correction; you do not have to serialize it UNLESS you decide to sell it. Otherwise, so long as you mill it yourself (from at least 80% or less, ) and keep it for yourself, no serial number is required.

Crazy you’d think as a gun company it would be the perfect opportunity to cash in as a sponsor or free advertisement from each game
