INTERNS IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO LEARN IT'S ABOUT WHO YOU'RE GOING TO MEET. INTERNSHIPS AND NETWORKING ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING HUMAN CONNECTIONS, IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER.

I was an intern last year and I didn't really learn a lot, but I made sure I spoke and interacted in conversations and also made sure everybody knew what I wanted to learn and what career I wanted to go into. 5 months of leaving, I was contacted by the Editor about if I wanted a full time position. I went back and now in a position where I have real influence within the business.

This isn't just for interns! This is the winning formula for any setting. It's how I have built my career and how I got through school. Relationships = everything

"If you're a wallflower, don't even do internships."

Gary I don't often disagree with you, but I do disagree on this statement you have made. If you are a wallflower, THE ONE THING you need to do is practice your social skills and work out that "muscle."

I say, if you are a wallflower, DO INTERNSHIPS. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET BETTER AT MOVING AWAY FROM THAT WALL.

This tip really gets you real far in anything! Just by being that person who says hello or are positive around you, gets you the connections

I am working somewhere right now where everyone has their heads down, they don't respond to friendly conversations, people hate their jobs... I even had someone directly ignore my, "good morning" as we got into the elevator. Ain't nobody got time! I would rather be social and talkative than a cold person.

I got my marketing internship, which was a requirement to graduate, from connections I got working in the factory part of the company. The production manager would always go through and talk to everyone, which I loved, and we would have longer conversations about college because he went to the one I was attending. Then when I needed the internship I hit him up asking if they had anything and the rest is history.

Networking is key. Good manners go a long way. Especially speaking to the opposite gender. If you're a man, listen closely to the women that you work with, make frequent eye contact, they will admire your dedication in being a person that gives them an interpersonal regard. Ask them how to do things properly. This demonstrates that you respect their experience and knowledge.

Love this one, Gary - thank you. Im not particularly advanced in my career, but I have a job that people think is cool (for a good company). I get asked about how to get the most out of an internship, how to interview, how to advance in a career. My answer is always some version of: Find loose connections. Find a connection between what you currently do and what you'd like to do. Then give the people involved a reason to engage with you.

I have a video production company and I have an intern in which I am teaching him hands on techniques that took me years to learn, shortening his learning curve also producing more creators to expand my team. Interns should learn from the big dogs to become one. Thanks for all your content Mr.VEE

Totally agree...where I did my co-op they were so far behind in payroll and people thought I was crazy to stay but I kept telling everyone the experience I got vs other students was priceless...I went from CAD operator to lead electrical engineer by 20...and the owner mentored me to start my own computer engineering company...that lead me on the path to where I am today

Great Advice Gary. Also be yourself so others can see who you really are and have the courage to make the first move as nothing can be created without that first action
