EXTREMELY Confusing Card

Finally understand it. In the modern format (as in anything in the last 15 years) there are several things that do something similar. I.E. letting you cast stuff form exile. The big draw it would seem for the Ice Cauldron is that it'll let you split the cost of a card between 2 turns.

When your opponent starts reading it, take off with their lunch money, deck box, car keys...

Sometimes the best way to understand a card is to work out what it's doing on a conceptual level rather than a plain reading of the rules text. The core ideas of things like Ice Cauldron, the Licids and banding are actually quite simple, but the trouble is that implementing those ideas within the rules is annoyingly complex and resulted in walls of text.

Basically let's put a down payment on a creature without charging you interest. Can't see a way to abuse it but if you care about casting from exile it's interesting

I remember seeing this card as a kid - back in the Urzas Block days - and I looked at it and thought "heck, I'm not reading all that" so I never knew what it did haha. There was just so much tiny text

Filtering powerstone mana into real mana is for spells with it also

You can also just Doubling Cube the mana produced and spend that mana like any regular mana.

I used this to use powerstone mana to cast nonartifact spells in my mono black Ashnod deck

It is basically plot. You pay the mana now and can cast for free later. It’s an alright card that allows for slightly earlier mana intensive combos, but it’s not that great

What happens if you proliferate the charge counter? Can you tap the couldron for the mana multiple times?

Wait so in theory I could tap Ice Cauldron for 1, exile Grislebrand, then next turn tap Ice Cauldron and play Grislebrand for 1 mana? If that's true this card is beyond broken.
