The world reacts to Donald Trump's election win

The world reacted to the election of Donald Trump as the US president on Wednesday.

Trump will return to the White House after claiming victory in one of the most bitterly contested presidential elections in the history of the United States.

Trump surpassed the necessary 270 electoral college votes on Wednesday morning to defeat Kamala Harris, his Democratic rival, and deny the country its first female president.

His path back to the Oval Office became clear after a win in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania before Wisconsin sealed the deal. Three of the seven swing states — Michigan, Nevada and Arizona — have not yet been called but are leaning Republican. If Trump is confirmed the winner, he will have swept all seven battleground states.

Trump was also on track to win the national popular vote, the first time a Republican has done so since George W Bush in 2004.

I plan to retire at 62 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life. I could fully just rely on only my SS if I wanted to when that times arrives but l'll also have at least one pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific Investment account with my Stephanie Janis Stiefel my FA. Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible.

The US people were fed up of the obvious lies and lawfare. Fed up with the pushing of the dangerous war in Ukraine. Fed up with mounting debt. Fed up with thousands of illegal migrants being given money when US vets and homeless people were left to rot. Anybody with an ounce of sense would have voted for Trump. Glad to see that more than half the US voters have that!
