How to Fix Mouse Wheel Scrolling Problem.

The mouse wheel or roller on the top of a wheel mouse can malfunction. Below are some tips on troubleshooting and resolving this issue, as well as additional suggestions of what to do if unable to fix the mouse wheel.

Most modern mice come equipped with a "scroll wheel," located in the center of the mouse, between the left and right buttons. As the name indicates, it allows the user to scroll horizontally--or, in some cases, vertically as well. This is helpful when viewing websites or documents that fill more than the entire window.

Mouse scroll wheel ‘jumps’ usually appear while users are scrolling downwards with their mouse. It appears on PCs and laptop and it’s not exclusive to a certain version of Windows OS. While scrolling down, the page or really anything that can be scrolled moves up a couple of pixels and it can be really annoying.

Thank you my friend. Some one had turn the vertical scroll to 37. No wonder my word document was moving like a Boeing 747. Thanks once again.

My mouse wasn't scrolling at all. I double checked to make sure that my drivers were up to date and that inactive scrolling was enabled. I read a comment on the microsoft forum to turn the mouse upside down and vigorously move the mouse in a up and down and in a figure 8 pattern for several seconds. Apparently, the wheel can get stuck if something gets inside of it. This worked for me. I am able to freely scroll now. So, before you follow the instructions on the video, maybe try it first before disassembly.

For those having jumpy scrolling:
rub your palm on the scroll where for a few seconds (scroll the wheel quickly with your palm). Blowing air with your mouth sometimes also fixes this. No need to thank me, it's just magic

I was sure it was because of my mouse so I was thinking of replacing it, but really it was the settings I had to change which to my logic wouldn't make sense, but now my scroll is working, thanks.

For me my mouse's scroll wheel will take two notches to scroll in the OPPOSITE direction from what I was just scrolling in. I can fix the problem by turning my mouse on and off. But it always starts acting up again after a while of being on. Do you have any idea why this might be?

It actualy worked. I always thought scroll wheel was dirty or dusty and thats what was causing the issue but when i changed the setting it worked perfectly. For me on Windows 10 was set to 1, changed it to 7 and no problems

Hello, I have a question. I keep clicking the wheel on the mouse to scroll down faster and now if I scroll the mouse, it doesn't work anymore. How do you fix it?

my issue is the mouse pointer is moving to the left on its own. If I try to move it back to the right it immediately moves to the far left until it hits the left side of the screen. I've seen sites that said to turn Scrolling inactive windows under mouse pointer options to ON but mine is already on. When I restart computer it does fine for awhile and then the problem starts again. Not sure what is activating the mouse pointer to move far left on its own. Any ideas?

I am curious that so many of these videos are on fixing wheel scrolling by making changes in the mouse options, and not actually fixing the peripheral problem.

What worked for me was I started sliding the wheel from sideways instead of top of it. You may wanna try it and it may work.

My scrolling problem makes my mouse that everytime I scroll down it also scrolls up and everytime i scroll up it also scrolls down. and its very hard. do you know a way to fix it?

Like if i try to scroll up to the top page i will never make it there but i can go up and down but never at the top or at the bottom of the page, because before I stopped it it already scrolled the oppposite way.
