Mouse wheel scroll problem fix.

If your computer mouse wheel is not working properly, rotates but won’t scroll on the screen. Feels kind of loose, sometimes scrolling, sometimes not, you can repair it yourself. I’ve tried to use WD-40, electronics cleaner, squeezing the rotary encoder, compressed air, but nothing worked for me. However, increasing the size of the mouse wheel shaft fixed the scroll problem. I’ve used a plumber’s tape, but you can use Duct tape, electrical tape, or any other tape to make the wheel a little thicker.

OMG, cannot believe it actually worked. I was just about to give up and start looking for a new wireless mouse because opening up the mouse and cleaning all the lint inside did not fix the problem. Had some plumber's tape on hand and used it as in the video, and now the scroll wheel works. Thanks a lot!

Teflon tape worked perfect. Was considering throwing the mouse away but this was super helpful! Thank you!

Excellent. Worked perfectly using Microporous Surgical Tape out of the first aid box. Great to have the scroll wheel back in action.

Brilliant! I repaired my Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 using PTFE plumber's tape. The center mouse wheel lost its scrolling grip years ago and now it works! I was so close to shopping for a new one! Gotta love YT for these brilliant hacks! Thanks!

Thank you so much for the solution! I've been struggling with the mouse wheel for a while and couldn't find a fix. I guess, at least in my case, the plastic must have worn down over time, which is why it became too thin to make proper contact.

The tiny shaft of the wheel is hexagonal shape, and fixs in the hex hole, but with the use, the plastic cornes get round so the tape trick works fine, thanks!

Thx.... basically what I did though instead of that because it didn't work as well kept slipping anyway was cut the tape about the size of the hole or a little bigger, basically a square, layed that over top of the hole where the wheel goes in, then attached to push the wheel through perfect 👌

Thanks because your video encouraged me to try and fix my mouse insted of discard it. In my case, a wireless Genius, the encoder was rolling smooth, nothing seemed to be malfunctioning, so I decided to use a Wahl oil (yes, the electric hair clipper) on it, and it started working again from almost being unusable. Afterwards, I removed the excesss of oil and got back to work :)

Thank you Sir! The cogwheel not moving was the issue and the critical clue to my fix! Yaaay! I found it easier to layer a small square over the cogwheel hole and push the shaft through rather than trying to attached the tape to the shaft (not much shaft to work with).

This is the solution that worked for me. New Hama mouse started having scroll problems after 1 week of heavy use. I guess germans don't make things like they used to...
