I worked as a diamond merchant in mines located in Venezuela and had the opportunity to buy about 4 rough diamonds in intense green and canary yellow. I remember that they weighed between 1.20 carats. They really are stones that dazzle when you look at them.

This channel unironically has the best documentaries, especially since they started pumping more out over the last year.

Keep in mind that diamonds in jewelry making is a relatively recent fashion. Before the early 19th century, jewelers relied on colored gemstones and pearls for their creations. Diamonds really got their boost in the 30s when DeBeers started the 'two months salary' for an engagement ring campaign.

This video is a fascinating deep dive into the intricate world of diamonds! The way it captures the global nature of the diamond trade, from Antwerp to Mumbai, and the sophisticated technology behind diamond cutting, is truly captivating. The insights into both the high-stakes business and the personal stories of those involved offer a comprehensive look at an industry that's often shrouded in mystery. Brilliantly done!

Human beings are so easy to deceive. Most people now believe that a diamond represents rareness and love and they will spend tons of money to buy it.

I remember seeing a documentary years ago where a diamond dealer in Russia showed a huge warehouse with shelves full of cases of cut diamonds. There was a massive amount of them, and he said they only let out so many for sale each year, do they don't flood the market and their value stays high.

Now that us humans can make absolutely perfect diamonds of any size in a laboratory this industry will die out. Already in Australia the popularity of lab grown is taking over those being mined. We prefer the ones with no human suffering attached.

I have seen a few documentaries about the diamond trade and other jewel trade in various countries. This one I have seen before.
Thank you, for this one again.
Slave markets for many and wealth for Debeers at the top and other jewelry manufacturers. Human rights for none. One cannot eat gold or jewels.
With appreciation again.

Rubies, Sapphires, and Emeralds are rarer than Diamonds. One heck of a monopoly, though.

I watched a video about one of the biggest diamonds ever found in Kimberley. It was huge, with a pinkish hue, and way too big for any type of jewelry. Because it was record-setting, the company that owned it also didn't want to split it up.
Last I saw of it was it getting wheeled into a hi=security vault for storage.

Point is, how can you say this diamond is "worth" xx millions of dollars? All it does is sit in locked storage. Nobody will lend against it, few people would ever consider buying it. It serves no purpose. By extension, the same can be said of any diamond other than the ones that are being put to industrial uses. Other than that, diamonds have no value, or perhaps only to people who are attracted by shiny, glittering objects.

In a world where life is often seen as cheap, yet a shiny rock can cost more than most people. Will earn in an entire lifetime

I just wonder why this well researched documentary never mentioned about LAB GROWN DIAMONDS which is the biggest concern now of the diamond business worldwide. Thanks.
