I love how you can tell Ivar's not just watching, but understanding what Ragnar's doing. And you can tell from his facial expressions. Ragnar is resolidifying his authority to an extent by putting himself in front of everyone and literally begging them to challenge his authority, using his reputation and people's awe towards him to scare them into backing down. It gives the impression to everyone there that he's unstoppable.

Ivar is hilarious in this scene. At first he's like "OMG HI DAD" and then next he's like "OH OH ME ME I WANNA DO IT, IF ONLY I COULD STAND."
