A good friend of mine who ate a lot of fast food for years but never drank alcohol died of fatty liver disease not quite 2 years ago.

Yes, I was diagnosed with NAFLD and pulled the trigger on a ketogenic diet; low carbs, no sugar & zero fructose goal.
In six months I lost 48 pounds and kept it off for two years.
A recent MRI for kidney stone follow-up showed 'no mass'

Success!

I got fatty liver from HRT and Simvastatin. I stopped these meds and I'm better now 10 yrs later. I am a teetotaler with a healthy diet wasnt into high sugar or oily food either. It was the meds.

My view: eat real food, in small amounts, infrequently. Eat fruit local and seasonal. I have a produce seasonality chart for my state and try to stick with it. In regard to fruit, right now we are closing out pears, peaches and nectarines and into grapes and apples. Nature is not dumb. Take note.

My brother was diagnosed with fatty liver/NASH in December 2022. My brother needs a liver transplant but must loose at least 15-20 pounds. My brother is 6ft and has no other health problems.

He had his gallbladder removed in 2012, he has always said he has not felt good since then.

In 2019 I had NAFLD with NASH and F3-F4 fibrosis, which put me on the cusp of cirrhosis. By removing all carbohydrates from my diet I was able to completely reverse the disease and restore my liver to a normal state, as evidenced by a follow-up Fibroscan. This was at the age of 72, I am now 77 and am healthier and stronger than I have been in decades. NAFLD is 100% reversible.

Thank you Dr
Lufkin for just saying it.

So eating fruit is not the issue. Reading the label on processed food, junk food, etc is the problem.

Thank you, Jesse, for inviting Dr. Lufkin on to your show. Very interesting story about 1980, HFCS, and the beginning of fatty liver in non-alcoholics. Regarding the Pate de fois gras----(poor goose)---I understand they nailed its webbed feet to a board, put a mill in its mouth, and literally Stuffed the Goose. Egyptian hieroglyphs depict this from 400 BC.!

I hear a lot about how terrible it is that sodas in the USA use HFCS instead of cane sugar, but in Australia and other countries they still have cane sugar, and people are still overweight.

I eat half cup wild blueberries and 1 cup good culture cottage cheese with a high fiber low carb muffin I make. The fiber and protein minimize the low carb berries and I get a nutrient dense meal.

Excess protein too is broken down and detoxified in Utica acid and glucose

No more pina colada’s for me. Fructose + alcohol = fatty liver x 2

Fructose not responsible for increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, research shows
Date:
February 26, 2014
Source:
St. Michael's Hospital
Summary:
A meta-analysis of all available human trials says fructose in and of itself is not to blame for the increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Since the disease is closely linked to obesity and Type 2 diabetes, there's a growing debate in the medical community about whether diet plays a role in its development, specifically the consumption of fructose. However, a new review suggests fructose is not to blame, but that excess consumption of calories can contribute to the disease, regardless of whether those calories came from fructose or other carbohydrates.

Does this means we can't eat fruits that are sweet ?

For a start, seriously, eliminate peanuts from your diet. Move towards complex carbs and simple protiens. Peanut are a dense, indigestable protien, which block the pancreatic ducts.
