Most OVERRATED Shoulder Exercise

Показать описание
When it comes to shoulder workouts to build bigger delts, front raises are easily the most overrated shoulder exercise out there. Throw in a few sets of this front delt exercise if you really want, but it's probably not adding much to your shoulder training as far as hypertrophy goes. The front deltoid is already being heavily stimulated during your chest workouts (any basic compound press) and during overhead presses. Plus, the front delt doesn't contribute a lot to that round "3d delts" look. If you really want to build shoulder muscles that "pop", focus on the side delts and rear delts with exercises like lateral raises, skiiers, face pulls and rear delt rows. These will give you the most effective delt workout possible.

If only rows worked the rear delt as much as bench works the front delt.

True. I literally stop front delt focused exercise and focused only on side & rear delt because of muscle imbalance. It's due to me obsessed over upper chest workout in the past...

Front raises are a great functional exercise if you are planning on visiting Germany in the 30s

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

If you want to throw in a few sets of front raises here and there for good measure then that's fine, but this is definitely not a shoulder exercise you need to be prioritizing. I personally never perform front raises and I strongly doubt most people need them at all due to the stimulation the front delts are already cumulatively receiving across all of your basic compound chest and shoulder presses.

I often see shoulder workouts being posted online that include 2 or in some cases even 3 different front raise variations which is just a complete misplacement of time and effort. The front delts contribute the least of the three heads in creating that round "3D delt" appearance, and you'd be far better off focusing on building up the lateral and posterior heads.

Lateral raise variations, skiiers, face pulls, rear delt rows and (properly executed) upright rows are all good options.

OHP should be the foundation if you ask me, then more isolation for the rear and lateral delts depending on your goals

Shoulders are my best body part after chest and the only things I do for shoulders are OHP, face pulls and some lateral raises.

I never train my front delts. They get used in every chest exercise

Unironically the front delt is my weakest bodypart due to the fact i didnt train it because of such advice. I have plenty lateral mass, but the front is weak

Baffles me when you see someone doing front press, then seated dumbbell press, and then a machine press in the same workout? 😄you only need one pressing movement of any variation doesn't matter which one, five sets is all you need, the rest is isolation, I train the tried and trusted bro split so one body part a week hit hard is the best routine I've ever used, and I've tried them all

Problem is front rise in shoulder pronation and with neutral shoulder is two different excercises. First is for front delt absolutely, but in shoulder pronation, especially with hand far from each other lateral delts, especialy anterior half work strong (this excercise is bad for forms of shoulder impingement).

Thank you, Sean, for all these great shorts you offer. They're to the point, economical, and instructive. Much appreciated, and you have a great sense of humor where applicable.
